WISCONSIN -- A 7-year-old Town of Holland girl needed stitches to her eye, lip and chin after being bitten earlier this month by a dog that also bit a young girl in the face two years ago, authorities said.
The latest incident took place about 3:45 p.m. Sept. 11 while the girl — a relative of the dog's owners — was at the house for a family function. Capt. Dave Adams of the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department said the dog was eating cake out of a box when the girl stepped on the box and the dog lunged at her, biting her on the left side of the face.
The German shepherd mix — owned by Jeff and Sarah De Blaey, of N3424 State 32 in the Town of Lima — has since been put down, the victim's mother said Friday.
She said her daughter is "doing good" but declined further comment.
This was the second time the dog had injured a small child at the house, according to the sheriff's department.
In May 2009 the dog bit a 5-year-old girl, who suffered injuries to the right side of her face as well as her shoulder and elbow, Adams said.
Messages left at the De Blaey residence Thursday and Friday were not returned.
Adams said no citations have been issued in the case.
