Woman bitten by dogs that attacked and killed her Yorkshire Terrier

UNITED KINGDOM -- A WOMAN was bitten in the arm as she tried in vain to stop two dogs savaging her pet Yorkshire Terrier to death.

The woman was walking her two dogs – both Yorkshire Terriers – in the Alexandra Road area of Newport on Saturday evening when they were set on by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and a “Pit Bull-type dog”.

The two dogs that took part in the attack were not on leads, and three men who were with them ran away after the attack, which happened near the Waterloo Hotel at around 10.15pm.

The woman was treated at the Royal Gwent Hospital while specialist police dog handlers attempted to trace both the dogs and their owners.

One of the dogs is described as an off-white Pit Bull-type terrier about the size of a Labrador and possibly called Kane. The other is a brown Staffordshire Bull Terrier with a long tail.

People are advised not to approach the dogs if they see them but to instead call Gwent Police on 101.
