10-Month-Old Golden Retriever Attacked By Pit Bull On Halloween

COLORADO -- Felicia Farkas told KRDO Newschannel 13 that her 10-month-old golden retriever, Remington, was attacked by a pit bull Monday.

Farkas was taking her toddler-aged niece and nephew trick-or-treating around their Widefield neighborhood when the attack occurred.

According to Farkas, the pit bull escaped from the home through the front door and bit Remington’s leg.

“The owner of the house ended up getting a broomstick, and we ended up prying its jaws open. Then, [Remington] ended up falling over, and [the pit bull] ended up getting him on his neck,” said Farkas.

Farkas said the pit bull released his grip on Remington when the owner of the home poured a soda on the dog’s nose, saying dogs don’t typically like the carbonation.

“I took my jacked off and tied it above his wounds so he would stop bleeding. It didn’t stop,” said Farkas.

Remington suffered from lacerations and deep puncture wounds, and Farkas took the dog to the veterinarian shortly after the attack occurred.

According to Farkas the veterinarian bill came to about $820.

“His older brother ended up paying for it because the son wouldn’t even talk to me. So, I found that kind of disturbing because you’re out trick-or-treating while I’m in the hospital with my dog that your dog bit,” said Farkas.

The brother of the pit bull’s owner also requested Farkas sign a document declaring that she would not pursue legal action, but Farkas said she refused the request.

The mother of the pit bull’s owner, who lives in the home where the attack took place, told KRDO Newschannel 13 the pit bull is a good dog and has never attacked another dog before.

“I’ve been around pit bulls. I have no problem with pit bulls,” said Farkas. Farkas told KRDO Newschannel 13 she believes this dog was aggressive and should have been more effectively contained.

The woman said she wasn’t anticipating any trick-or-treaters during the time the Farkas arrived. She said she was caught off guard and therefore had not yet secured the dog in the back yard.

The Humane Society told KRDO Newschannel 13 that once a formal complaint is filed, they will be conducting an investigation into the attack.
