ILLINOIS -- A Benton man was injured when he tried to help his dogs fend off an attack by two other dogs.
The attack occurred when two pit bull dogs got loose from their residence and went after two German Shepherds in the backyard of the victim's residence in the 400 block of North Grand Street, Benton police said.
The owner of the two Shepherds suffered injuries to his hands and arms when he tried to break up the fight and was taken to Franklin Hospital for treatment of his injuries. One of his dogs also suffered injuries during the attack, police said.
The owner of the two pit bulls, Angela K. Carpenter, 40, was issued two citations by Franklin County Animal Control and two citations from police.
Carpenter's dogs were taken into custody by animal control.
