Man shoots neighbor's dog to stop attack on his pet

ARIZONA -- A Valley man shot a neighbor’s dog in the neck to stop it from attacking his much smaller dog, he told ABC15.

“It doesn’t take much for a big dog to clamp down on a small dog,” said Michael Elias.

Elias was walking near the intersection of West Megan Street and North Blackstone Court on Wednesday when a 65-pound American Bulldog got loose and attacked his five-pound pet, according to a Chandler police report. The Bulldog was biting and shaking the smaller animal.

Elias told ABC15 that he tried to kick the larger dog to stop the attack, but when that didn’t work, he pulled out the gun he was carrying and shot the bulldog.

No word on the current condition of the dog shot, said police.

Elias’ dog is expected to make a full recovery.
