"You see your baby and you just don't want anything bad to happen to them," said Jodie Redden.
The eight-year-old girl was given close to 67 stitches, many of them in her face, and because the trauma is still fresh, the family asked that we not show their daughter. Still, Redden calls her little girl, "brave."
"On the way to the hospital, she said, 'Look, Mommy, I'm strong,' and she held up her arms [flexing] like that and said, 'I'm a tough girl,' and I said yes you are."
Redden credits Brinna's older brother for saving her life by punching and kicking the pit bull until the dog let go.
"I'd rather it be me there, than her," admits Redden.
"I remember my cousin kicking the dog in the ribs, and me getting ready to punch it," recalled Zachary Christopher, Brinna's cousin.
Christopher was there as the pit bull chomped down on his cousin.
"The dog grabbed her by the face and threw her down on the ground and started attacking her," described Christopher.
Christopher is happy to see his cousin home, and the entire family say they are blessed by the outpouring of gifts, love, and support for Brinna.
"She needs that, it's not just physical wounds that she has, it's also emotional," said Redden.
Even the dog's owner came by Wednesday evening to check on his young neighbor, and everyone wants to see the best for this little girl.
The dog's owner says the pit bull, Kane, is still in quarantine and will be for ten day, total, before he will be put down at the owner's request.
