The dog got hold of her left cheek. According to her father, Stephan (32), her cheeks were torn open during the attack. He said a woman was on her way into the animal hospital when her pitbull broke free from its chain and attacked Danika.
He urged people to take more care when they transport dangerous animals. He said a mouth cover would have prevented this.
He thanked the veterinarian who did an excellent job at handling the incident.
The dog was put down later that night.
The owner of the dog left a voicemail message on Olivier's phone but could not be reached again.
