TEXAS -- According to Brownwood Police, an 11-year-old girl was riding her bicycle on a residential street in Brownwood when she was attacked by a white male pit bulldog, receiving bites requiring several stitches.
At 6:12pm Monday night, a Brownwood Animal Control Officer was called to the area of Ash and Main Streets where the dog bite occurred. He arrived to find the father of the victim in the bed of a truck holding a chain which was attached to a dog under his truck.
The officer was able to secure the dog into a cage on his truck and transported the animal to the Corinne T. Smith Animal Shelter where it was quarantined until its owner could be located.
The victim’s father explained that the dog on the chain had bit his daughter while she was riding her bicycle in the street, the report states.
The officer later met the victim and her family at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room after taking the dog to the animal center.
According to the report, the dog bit the 11-year-old girl on her left forearm and when she tried to kick the dog, it bit her two to three more times on the left leg. The victim’s injuries included a ½ inch cut behind her left knee, a 2-inch cut on the outside left knee, and a ¼ inch cut next to the larger cut along with puncture wounds on her arm, according to the officer’s report. The leg wounds required a total of 9 stitches and the puncher wounds were glued. Along with these wounds, the girl’s shin on her right leg was also scraped by her bicycle while she was trying to get away from the dog.
Approximately 11:15 Tuesday morning, the officer was informed that a man came to the animal center looking for his white male pit bull, the report states. The owner of the pit bull lives next to where the dog bite took place, according to police.
He was issued a citation for animal at large and given his options regarding the dog, to quarantine it or to have the dog put down and tested for rabies at the City of Brownwood’s expense, the report states. The owner chose to have the animal put down and tested, according to the officer.
