Lawton man hospitalized after vicious dog attack

OKLAHOMA -- A Lawton man was mauled in a vicious dog attack Tuesday night and now the Animal Welfare Department is working to identify and locate the animal.

Authorities say the victim suffered a severe tear to his face when he was attacked by a dog. The victim said he and a friend were walking down SW 14th Street around 9 p.m.

When the victim turned around, the dog was lunging towards him.  He didn't even have a chance to run before the dog attacked. Rose Wilson, Superintendent of Animal Welfare Division, considers this the worst bite she's seen.

"It is one of the most severe bites that I have seen with my career with the city, 21 years. The dog is still out there. He basically told me over the phone that if it would not have been for his friend he would not be here today," said Wilson.

The victim remains in an Oklahoma City hospital. The dog is described as a large Pit bull or Rottweiler mix with brown and black brindle fur.

If you know where the dog is or who it belongs to, please call the Animal Welfare Department at 581-3271.
