North Carolina: Molly Cate, 26, accused of starving her horses

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Gaston County woman spent about seven hours in jail after Animal Control officers accused her of mistreating several horses on her property.

Molly Marie Cate, 26, of 40 Hephzibah Church Road, Crouse, did “intentionally injure and torment” several horses kept on her property.

The horses – some of which were called Mr. Citrus and EZ – did not have enough food causing them to be thin and severely underweight, according to a warrant affidavit signed by Animal Control Officer Z.N. Thornburg.

She also failed to “float the teeth” of the horses, which refers to a process of filing down a horses teeth, according to warrants.

Cate was booked into Gaston County Jail Wednesday and was released after posting $26,000 bail Thursday morning.
