Michigan: Oakland County Sheriff's deputies shoot German Shepherds after two women were attacked in Pontiac

MICHIGAN -- Oakland Sheriff's deputies shot an extremely vicious dog after the animal severely attacked two women.

The Oakland County Animal Control had issued a warning to be on the lookout for the German Shepherd.

"I thought I was going to die," said Maria Gialdi.

She reached out to 7 Action News to share her story so that others would be aware that the dog was loose at the time.

Gialdi is a translator for a family that needs services for a child with special needs. She got out of her car on Martin Luther King Blvd. near M-59 to go in their home to work when two dogs ran at her.

The dogs knocked her to the ground and started biting her. They ripped through her winter boots tearing the flesh off her legs.

"I was screaming for help. Nobody came out. Cars passed by and didn't stop," said Gialdi.

She says finally a good Samaritan came to her rescue Wednesday evening. A man stopped his car and let her in to safety. The dogs took off.

"I am just grateful that I was able to get in that car, that it stopped. I am grateful for the guy who stopped and let me into his car. "

Once at the hospital, she needed more than 50 stitches to treat numerous bite wounds.

Gialdi wasn't the only victim.

The Oakland County Sheriff's office says they attacked another woman in the 100 block of Seneca Street Thursday morning.  EMS crews arrived, but  could not get out of the ambulance because the dogs were at their doors.

Deputies arrived and said one of the dogs charged them. They shot it. It died. The other dog ran away and was located a day later, shot and killed.

Both dogs are being tested for rabies.

They have located its owner who got a ticket for having loose dogs. He is expected to appear in court on February 14.
