NEW YORK -- Police had to corral a runaway carriage horse after it broke free of its halter and went for a trot in Midtown on Sunday morning.
The bay horse got loose from a stable on W. 37th St., between 10th and 11th Aves., according to a spokesman for the Teamsters union, which represents Central Park carriage-horse drivers.
Video footage circulated by NYCLASS, an advocacy group that wants the industry banned from Central Park, showed two cops helping the horse’s owner seize the animal on 11th Ave.
The horse was uninjured and returned to work Monday. NYCLASS said the incident shows that horses don’t belong in a busy city.
