Swaneka P.J. Danzler (aka Swaneka Pertiece Danzler), 23, had admitted to Suffolk SPCA officers that she made the decision to abandon her puppies.
She waited until it was dark, put them into her car and drove to the Riverhead Animal Hospital in the middle of the night on December 28, 2012, and abandoned her dying, emaciated, mange-covered Pit Bull puppies into a six-foot-deep window well to die in the freezing overnight temperatures.
She then drove back home and forgot all about them and went on with her life.
Danzler pleaded guilty to one count of abandonment of a disabled animal last Wednesday, a Riverhead Justice Court official said.
A second abandonment charge — along with two other animal abuse charges — were dropped as a reward for her pleading guilty to one count.
The male puppy named Nicky, whose skin came off when it was touched, was too weak to eat or drink, and died Christmas night, the SPCA said at the time.
Both had mange, a painful skin condition caused by mite infestations, but it is usually treatable, especially when caught early.
In a 2012 interview, North Fork Animal Welfare League executive director Gillian Wood Pultz described the dog as “skin and bones — literally raw meat.”
“He was just, unfortunately, allowed to get way too sick before his owner did anything,” she said.
The surviving puppy was named Noel (after Christmas Noel) has been adopted and is living in Greenport, the SPCA said.
SPCA investigators had said Danzler admitted the two puppies were part of her dog's litter.
Danzler could not be reached. Her attorney could not be immediately reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
