FLORIDA -- A young girl is recovering after being bitten by the family dog on Tuesday evening.
One-year-old Karissa Hooks was bit by her 10-year-old dog Smokey on her head and face area.
Smokey, a pit bull mix that lived inside the house, did not have a history of biting, but the family signed him over to the Polk County Sheriff's Office Animal Control, which euthanized him.
Karissa was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and will need several reconstructive surgeries for the damage to her face.
According to The Lakeland Ledger, no one saw the biting incident so it is unknown if Smokey was provoked.
She has a go fund me account if anyone would like to donate to help her and her parents.
