MICHIGAN -- Our Fowlerville dog bite lawyers recently settled a lawsuit on behalf of woman who was attacked by a friend's dog.
She was visiting her friend’s home and was in the kitchen. The dog was also in the kitchen.
When our client bent over to look at a meal cooking in the oven, the dog jumped up and bit her in the face. The force of the attack was significant.
Our client suffered severe lacerations to her face, including the need for more than 60 stitches within her gum and cheek area. She has permanent scarring and disfigurement, as well as facial numbness due to damaged nerves.
The attack was unprovoked and our client was lawfully on the defendant’s property at the time of the attack. The incident was investigated by the Livingston County Sheriff Department.
We filed a dog bite lawsuit on her behalf in the Livingston County Circuit Court seeking compensation for the injuries suffered in the dog attack. After depositions of the witnesses were taken, the parties agree to a private mediation of the case.
The case was settled for the amount of $175,000 for her pain and suffering, disfigurement, and other damages. The settlement was paid by the homeowner’s insurance company for the owner of the dog.
