Man saves woman being attacked by her nephew's pit bulls

GEORGIA -- Derrick Irby owns a farm in Montezuma.

He rides his tractor often to mow grass around his crops and to carry feed.

But while Irby was driving his tractor on Sam Batton Road last Friday, he says he saw at least 3 dog tails wagging behind a car.

When he took a closer look, he realized a group of pit bulls was attacking a woman.

That's when he grabbed a length of chain from his tractor.

"I was beating the ground with the chain, and I had my hand up...and I was trying to be as big as I could," he said.

Irby says the woman, Eta Bryant was bitten on her neck, arms, legs, and has a broken foot.

She was sent to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon.

"It will take her months to get over this," said Irby.

A man who lives in the home where the attack happened identified the woman as his aunt. He declined to speak on camera.

Irby says Bryant is still recovering from her injuries after being rescued and says he believes a greater power is the one responsible for saving her.

"God sent me here at the right time, that's the only explanation I have," he said.

The Macon County Health Department says the dogs will be contained for ten days to ensure they don't have rabies.
