Karen Arnold, 58, of Ardmore, entered a not guilty plea to the animal cruelty charge.
Arnold is accused of killing her neighbor's pit bull back in July. It is alleged she shot the dog because she thought it killed three of her cats.
The owner of the pit bull reportedly pleaded with Arnold to not do it.

Arnold is set for trial on Feb. 1, 2016.

Animal cruelty is not confining your gripping mauler and allowing it to maul and kill other people's normal pets. Killing a pit bull that attacks other animals isn't cruelty, it's self-defence and the defence of normal animals' lives.
ReplyDeleteKilling a pit bull that has attacked before isn't 'revenge'. That pit bull hasn't ceased presenting a clear and present danger to humans and animals just because it's taking a break in its killing. Killing such a pit bull is still just self-defence, the defence of other animal life, and the rational response to an imminent attack -- because such an attack remains imminent as long as such a pit bull is still breathing.
P.S. And as this case clearly illustrates, together with the thousands of cases of pit bulls that have mauled humans, waiting for authorities to deal with a killer pit bull is irrational. They will not prosecute the owner of such a pit bull. They will return such a pit bull to the same owner or rehome elsewhere it as a safe family pet.
ReplyDeleteIt's a scandal that this woman is being prosecuted. The guilty parties are the pit bull owner and the authorities who fail to come down hard on anyone whose pit bull type dog so much as menaces other living beings.
