TENNESSEE -- A West Tennessee man is facing an animal cruelty charge after a puppy was found dead and five dogs were found extremely neglected.
Christopher Dale Wilson appeared Wednesday in court on one count of animal cruelty.
Capt. Terry McDade with the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department says he responded last week to an anonymous call off of Mount Pelia Road.
“For a welfare check on a dog on a chain. It looked unhealthy,” he said.
When McDade arrived at the home, he found a dog chained in the yard that looked like it hadn’t eaten in a while. But what else he found on the property was heartbreaking.
“The ribs were showing, they weren’t kept up, there wasn’t any food for the dog in the front area,” McDade said. “Two dogs were running loose. Their ribs were showing, but not as bad as the dog that was chained up.”
“Later when I went to the backyard, there was a dog in the pen who, I don’t know, looked like it hadn’t eaten in a month, and there was a dead puppy beside the sidesteps of the house,” McDade said. “There was also another puppy whose stomach looked bloated like he had worms.”
McDade said they called Wilson to the house from work to ask about the dogs. Wilson said he had tried to help the animals, but Capt. McDade said it looked like they hadn’t been fed or medically treated in a long time.
“I’m sure he won’t be able to have any animals again. If he is caught, he will be recharged,” he said.
McDade said all the dogs have been treated and are doing well and will be placed in good homes soon.
