OHIO -- Seven puppies in Jefferson County were rescued from a life threatening situation.
For humane officers in Jefferson County, the physical state of one of the dogs was sickening, and the pups weren't much better.
They were found starving in a Smithfield home, until their heroes came to the rescue.
Director of Humane Operations Casey Robinson says, "The condition is horrible, one which is as low as you can go, emaciated you can visibly see every bone even the puppies. The first time I've seen emaciated puppies."
Robinson says charges are being pursued, and says he's disappointed that the owner is a repeat offender.
It could be several weeks before the dogs are ready for a new home.
As for the previous owner, his case has been turned over to the prosecutors office.
