Michigan: Dogs gnawing on dead mate brings felony charge against Idella Williams

MICHIGAN -- A Grand Rapids woman has been ordered to stand trial on animal cruelty charges after investigators found malnourished animals eating the carcass of an emaciated dog in the backyard of the woman’s Southeast Side home.

Idella Williams, 67, is charged with abandonment-cruelty to between four and 10 dogs.

This deceased dog was reportedly being eaten by other small breed dogs, approximately six kept in an outdoor dog kennel with no food provided and food and water dishes frozen over with snow covering them,’’ Kent County Animal Control Officer Joe Dainelis wrote in a report.

When investigators arrived, all that was left of the dead dog was its jawbone, teeth and a small part of the head, court records show.

Williams would not let animal control officers into her home. They returned with a search warrant and recovered seven small breed dogs kept in an upstairs bathroom filled with urine and feces, Dainelis wrote in the report.

Animal control since 2009 has received nearly a dozen complaints for the home on Boston Street near Fuller SE.

If convicted, Williams faces up to two years in prison and 300 hours of community service.

  1. What's up with Animal Control? A dozen complaints since 2009 and it takes this happening and her actually getting caught in this particular instance before AC does anything???
