He was sentenced to one day in jail.
INITIAL REPORT:
A Dayton man is facing animal cruelty charges after he was accused of kicking and slamming a dog’s head against a door during an incident in Riverside.
Thomas Lee Jr., 46, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of animal cruelty and resisting arrest after the incident at a residence in the 2400 block of Rondowa Avenue, according to a police incident report.
Police were called to the home on Wednesday around 6 p.m. Officers initially arrived to investigate a report of domestic violence, according to the report. Shane Roland, 43, who is Lee’s brother-in-law, told police he witnessed Lee attack his 18-month old boxer, named Star.
“He grabbed her up by her collar and was slamming her head into the refrigerator and microwave,” Roland said.
Roland told police Lee punch and kicked Star multiple times before slamming its head against the back door of the residence and throwing the dog out of the house. Lee is accused of attacking the dog because it chewed on computer cords, according to a police report.
“He got really upset,” Roland said. “He went after Star in a raging fit.”
Lee resisted officers as they arrested him, according to a police report. He tried to walk toward a room where he keeps an aggressive dog, but officers were able to pull him away and walk him to a cruiser, according to a police report.
Star is expected to recover from her injuries, Roland said.
