Texas: Babysitter, 14, attacked by family's pit bull; no charges to be filed

TEXAS -- My sister's daughter was attacked yesterday by a pit bull as she entered the unlocked door of the home where she regularly babysits. Mind you, the dog was unprovoked and animal control told my sister that it was not the first time it has attacked a person . Owner was right there, too!

Nothing is being required of the dog's owner except to quarantine the dog for 10 days to make sure he doesn't have rabies. Seriously?!

14 years ago our Wheaton terrier scraped ( no stitches required) my neighbors leg when she tried to put him back in our fence . Our vet told us that once a dog has bitten a human, they will bite again. He told us that we had to put him down.

I tried to find an alternative and see if the Wheaton Terrier rescue could place him with an adult . They said that they could not place a dog that has bit a person, too big of a liability for them. So I was made to put him down.

It still saddens me to this day that it is what we were told that we had to do. But it now angers me when dogs are allowed to live that have actually attacked a human and caused severe damage . We were not given that option 14 years ago.

Today , it seems that DOGS have more rights than humans. I love dogs, ( I have 3 and often foster and help rehome dogs) but I value human life more. I'm so thankful my niece wasn't hurt more than this.
