KENTUCKY -- A 19-month-old toddler received 12 stitches on his face and multiple staples in his head after a pit bull viciously attacked him in Kentucky.
Brooklyn Moore tried to protect her son Bryson after an eight-year-old girl her friend was babysitting unlocked the dog's cage in Ashland, but she suffered a serious bite on her arm that required more than 20 stitches.
Moore, a 16-year-old student enrolled at Penn Foster High School, is trying to raise $10,000 to cover her 'outrageous' medical bills.
Moore was visiting her friend in Ashland when a young girl under her friend's care declared, 'This dog is super super mean,' before unlocking the pit bull's cage.
'As soon as the dog heard the door unlock, he pounced out and immediately started attacking my baby,' she wrote on a GoFundMe page.
'As me and my friend pulled the pit bull off it started to attack me. I shoved the dog off me and it ran outside.'
Because there was another pit bull on the loose inside the house, Moore, her son, and the friend all ran outside.
Moore managed to place Bryson safely inside a neighbor's car, but the dog known as Diesel bit her in the arm again before mauling her friend in the jaw.
Neighbors called the police and authorities seized the dog, which belongs to her friend's brother,The Sun reported.
The mother received more than 20 stitches on her elbow, while Bryson had 12 stitches on his face and numerous staples on the top and back of his head.
A disturbing photo of Bryson with a blood soaked bandage over his right eye has been shared more than 26,000 times on Facebook as people around the world wished him a speedy recovery.
Delphia Fitchpatrick wrote on Facebook: 'I cried just seeing this pic. Prayers for this baby.'
Jaimie Hardwick Diamond said: 'Goodness gracious, poor baby. I sure hope they killed the dog.'
Moore has enlisted the help of personal injury lawyers Myers and Perfater and six people have contributed a total of $360 to their GoFundMe page.
