A judge granted bond Monday for a Darlington man jailed after Darlington County Sheriff's deputies say he duct taped his dog’s mouth shut.
Sheriff Wayne Byrd says deputies arrested Timothy Monroe Nalley, of Darlington, after a dog was found with its mouth taped shut Sunday in the backyard of his home near Hoffmeyer Road.
Nalley is charged with ill treatment of animals (torture) and was also served a bench warrant.
The sheriff’s office is investigating to determine if this dog is connected to a similar case from just a week ago.
On April 4 deputies found another dog, Aurora, wandering the streets of Darlington also with her mouth and eyes duct taped.
Sheriff Byrd says the small dog found Sunday had duct tape around its neck and mouth when deputies arrived at the home.
When questioned why he would treat his animal this way, deputies say Nalley told them that he taped the dog, a white and tan Terrier mix, because she “barks all the time.”
The dog, named Angel, is about four to six months old, in good health although a bit shocked at first, and is extremely friendly, reports an employee with the Darlington County Animal Shelter.
Staff at the shelter tell Nws 2’s sister station News 13 they plan to adopt Angel to a permanent home as soon as she has fully recovered and receives the proper shots heartworm treatments.
Nalley was released from jail at 4:15 p.m. Monday on a $5,000 bond.
