Texas: Kaleb Sharp, 23, accused of shooting dog with BB gun

TEXAS -- A man who is accused of shooting a dog with a BB gun faces a felony count of cruelty to non-livestock animals and has been denied bond.

Kaleb Rashard Sharp, 23, shot a dog named "Rock," or "Rocky," with a BB gun on April 24, according to court documents filed in Harris County District Court on Tuesday.

The documents state Sharp "knowingly and recklessly, tortured an animal canine." It also states that Sharp fired off the BB gun as he was fleeing the scene.

The documents do not state what area of Houston or Harris County the shooting occurred.  Documents also do not say what type of dog Rocky is.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Sharp has been in jail since June 15.

He has a felony robbery charge from a May 11 incident where he allegedly stole undisclosed items from Saad Almani and caused bodily injury by striking him in the arm, according to court documents. He has a July 29 court appearance set for the charge.

In February, Sharp was placed on five years of community supervision after pleading guilty to a felony charge of burglary of a habitation, according to court records.  He was ordered to "avoid injurious or vicious habits" and is "strictly prohibited from shipping, transporting, possessing, receiving or purchasing a firearm."

Sharp is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday in the animal cruelty case.
