UNITED KINGDOM -- Meet Natanie and her mommy Sr. Cindy
Natanie was rush into Valley Farm after being bitten by a staffie (pit bull) on her face. She was in shock and Dr. Salome started shock treatment. Her lower jaw appeared to have been damaged but due to her being in shock we waited till she was stable before evaluating her wounds. This is known as triage, the Abc's of emergencies.
A= airways which is the most important.
B= breathing. This isn't the same as airways. Airways means is the something restricting the breathing?
C= circulation ie the heart. Is the heart beating? at what rate?
When Natanie was stable radiographs were taken of her jaw and a fracture of the left mandible by the canine was found. Dr. Salome stabilised the fracture and placed a oesophagostomy tube, which is a tube placed in the oesophagus through the side of the neck, to assist with feeding while the jaw healed.
Nananie has made a full recovery and has a very happy mommy
