UNITED KINGDOM -- Shocking images have been released of a horse shot in the head with an arrow from a longbow.
Police are hunting those responsible for the ‘wicked’ attack after widget, the one year-old pony, was found injured in a field in Abbots Langley.
The horse was found on Saturday night with the large arrow embedded above its left eye.
Miraculously, it is believed that the horse will survive but may lose its eye.
RSPCA deputy chief inspector Mel Fisher described it as a wicked attack, adding: “It seems this poor boy had a very lucky escape, though the next 48 hours will be crucial.
“The long bow bolt has gone through his eye socket and into his nasal cavity, miraculously without hitting anything vital. It’s hoped he won’t lose his eye but it’s too early to know for sure.”
Widget is currently being treated at the Royal Veterinary College.
Three Rivers Local Crime Unit investigating officer DS Dan Stoddart said: “This appears to be a senseless, cruel crime and we are doing all we can to find the person responsible.”
