South Dakota: Bald Eagle Found Dead After Apparent Shooting says Sheriff's Office

SOUTH DAKOTA -- Investigators in Faulk County are asking for the public's help after finding a bald eagle apparently shot to death in a ditch.

The bird was found about 6 1/2 miles northwest of Faulkton at 159th Street and 350th Avenue earlier this week. The Faulk County Sheriff's Office said there is a financial award for anyone with a tip that leads to an arrest.

U.S. law bans the shooting and killing of American eagles, as well as buying or selling the birds, their nests or eggs. If convicted, the penalty could be up to $5,000 fine and a year in prison.
