Kansas: Jamal Myles being held on $25,000 bond for shooting pit bull

KANSAS -- Prosecutors this week charged a 19-year-old Wichita man with shooting a 5-year-old pit bull in February.

Jamal D. Myles faces one count of cruelty to animals in connection with dog's mistreatment, according to a complaint filed in Sedgwick County District Court.

A police incident report dated Feb. 18 says the dog's owner told officers that one of two people who came to his house in the 1000 block of North Mathewson shot the animal "after an argument the night before."

Myles was arrested and jailed on suspicion of the charge Monday, nearly ten months after the shooting, records show. Court records say the dog’s name is Ziggy.

Myles is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 31.
