Pennsylvania: Cody Anderson, 27, admitted to "snapping the necks" and killing two nine-month-old pit bull puppies

PENNSYLVANIA -- A Hazleton man who snapped the necks of two nine-month-old pit bull puppies last year was sentenced Friday to 11 to 23 months in county jail.

Cody Robert Anderson, 27, of Diamond Avenue, was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility following sentencing by Judge Michael T. Vough.

Don't applaud the judge just yet. He also made Anderson eligible for "work-release" so he won't be spending all his time in a jail cell thinking about the horrific thing he did.

Anderson pleaded guilty in September to two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

They probably charged him with felonies and let him plead down to misdemeanors.

Anderson admitted to killing the dogs in May 2015, days after one of the young dogs had bitten Yvette Hayle and Danielle Stetler.

Both dogs lived with the couple and their children at a South Poplar Street residence, according to the affidavit, and had been purchased from the website Craigslist.

A friend of the family, Anderson was asked by the women to go to their home and “get rid of the dogs,” the affidavit says.

He returned about two hours later and said, “It’s done. I snapped their necks.”

The animals' dumped bodies were discovered in a park near Heights Terrace Middle School on Mill Street in Hazleton.

Garry S. Taroli, who prosecuted the case, said anyone unable to care for their pets should bring them to an SPCA or private shelter.

“Don’t hurt or kill them,” Taroli said.
