New York: Police say Alicia Santos, 28, starved her pit bull

NEW YORK -- Police have charged a Town of Wallkill woman with animal cruelty after seizing an emaciated pit bull from her.

Police charged Alicia Santos, 28, on Thursday with one count of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor.

Orange County sheriff's deputies, aided by members of the Goshen Humane Society, served a search warrant at a home on Excelsior Avenue and found the female pit bull, its ribs clearly showing.

The dog was taken to Goshen Humane for medical care and other treatment to remedy its condition.

Santos also had an active bench warrant out of the City of Middletown on unrelated charges.

Santos was arraigned by Middletown City Court Judge Stephen Brockett and sent to Orange County Jail on $1,500 bail, pending a court appearance.
