Ohio: Jennifer Schwab, 36; Tanna Howser, 32, and Farrell Weger, 39, forced 6-week-old puppy to drink vodka, say police

OHIO -- Three Ashtabula residents who police say gave alcohol to a puppy now face charges of animal cruelty after posting a photo on Facebook of the dog passed out on the floor.

Jennifer Schwab, 36; Tanna J. Howser, 32, and Farrell Weger, 39, all of Ashtabula, are charged with cruelty to companion animals, a first-degree misdemeanor, according to police reports.

Police arrived at a home in the 300 block of West 53rd Street at 3:45 p.m.
Monday after receiving calls about photos of an intoxicated dog posted on Facebook. Police were told the puppy was intentionally given vodka and Kahlua, according to the police report.

Schwab told police Weger gave the three-month-old puppy alcoholic drinks.

Howser then posted the photo on Facebook with the caption, "lilybug is drunk she pass the (expletive) out on us LOL," according to the police report.

The dog was removed from the home by the city's animal control officer, Derrell McCaleb, who took the puppy to the Animal Protective League in Kingsville Township, according to his report.

City Solicitor Michael Franklin filed the charges Thursday.

"The Facebook screenshots give a disturbing view of the thought processes of these people," Franklin said.

Municipal Court officials will send a summons to the three, or have it delivered today by a bailiff, police said.

Franklin said the charge is a first-degree misdemeanor upon a first conviction, and a felony upon any further convictions.
