Michigan: Pit Bull mix attacks Sheriff's deputy who shoots dog

MICHIGAN --  A Jackson County sheriff's deputy shot and injured a dog described as a pit bull mix on Saturday in the village of Horton.

The deputy fired when one of two dogs, loose on Moscow Road, charged at him, Undersheriff Chris Kuhl said.

Police had been called about 12:45 p.m. July 1 to the 7700 block of Moscow Road because the dogs were running free in the small unincorporated community in Hanover Township.

The animal's condition was not clear.

Kuhl said the dogs were returned to their owner, who lives in the area, and he took the injured animal to see a veterinarian.

Kuhl said deputies are allowed to defend themselves against aggressive animals.

The owner was cited for having dogs at large, Kuhl said.

No vicious dog designation???
