Florida: Dog attack in Crestview sends 5-year-old girl, two others to hospital

FLORIDA -- Three people, including a 5-year-old girl, were hospitalized on Saturday following a report of a dog attack at a home on Villacrest Drive in Crestview.

Crestview Police spokesperson, Brian Hughes, said they were first called to the scene around 10:30 a.m. People that live in the neighborhood said the incident happened at 186 Villacrest Drive.

"A couple police cars, ambulances and fire department came down, of course we were watching out here," said Trent Mctyoe, who lives a couple homes down.

Tracey Vause, EMS Chief at Okaloosa County Department of Public Safety, told WEAR-TV that a 5-year-old girl was transported to Sacred Heart in Pensacola by Okaloosa Med Flight with serious injuries.

Two other women, a 40-year-old and 54-year-old, were taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center by ambulance.

Panhandle Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has taken over the investigation. Executive Director Dee Thompson told WEAR-TV that right now they do not have a lot of details to release.

Later, they identified the little girl as Zoey Green, her mom Paige Woody and the pit bull's owner was the 3rd victim.

Thompson said that both dogs were pit bull mixes and both had blood on them when officers arrived.

She said that the male dog was "highly aggressive" and it took two officers to remove him from the property.

Mctyoe said the first dog they removed looked like it was also mixed with beagle, but the second was a pit bull.

"Kind of grayish, smoky colored pit bull, pretty good sized pit bull," he said.

The dogs are now at the PAWS facility in Fort Walton Beach. Thompson said that they are "awaiting owner decision" and should have more information after Monday morning.

The names and conditions of the victims have not been released.
