Julian Bennett Pompey, 35, of the 3000 block of Rube Spangler Road, Lawndale, pleaded guilty to a 2016 charge of "maliciously depriving of necessary sustenance" to a pit bull in his care, according to Cleveland County Court documents.
He was sentenced to between 14 and 26 months in Cleveland County Jail.
Pompey signed a deal with the Cleveland County District Attorney's Office indicating he would plead guilty to the charge of killing the animal.
A charge declaring Pompey a habitual felon was dropped as part of the plea agreement.

In court, he stated he was not guilty of killing the animal but it was in his best interest to accept the plea.
