North Carolina: Julian Pompey, 35, pleaded guilty to starving his pit bull to death - gets 14 months in the county jail (5 months with "good behavior")

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Lawndale man accused of starving a dog to death pleaded guilty on Monday in Cleveland County Superior Court.

Julian Bennett Pompey, 35, of the 3000 block of Rube Spangler Road, Lawndale, pleaded guilty to a 2016 charge of "maliciously depriving of necessary sustenance" to a pit bull in his care, according to Cleveland County Court documents.

He was sentenced to between 14 and 26 months in Cleveland County Jail.


Pompey signed a deal with the Cleveland County District Attorney's Office indicating he would plead guilty to the charge of killing the animal.

A charge declaring Pompey a habitual felon was dropped as part of the plea agreement.

ALFORD PLEA
In court, he stated he was not guilty of killing the animal but it was in his best interest to accept the plea.

2 counts of driving while license revoked not impaired
4 counts of driving while license revoked
1 count of assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury
2 counts of felony possession of cocaine
1 count of breaking and entering
1 count of driving after consuming alcohol under the age of 19
1 count of possession of drug paraphernalia
