Oregon: Despite it being seen trying to attack a group of children, Beatrice Aranda complains that police shot her Pit Bull "for no reason

OREGON -- A woman said Woodburn police officers shot her dog in the back for no reason Thursday.

Woodburn police spokesman Jason Horton confirmed to KATU that police had shot a dog but said the dog charged at officers.

He said officers responded to a call that there was a vicious dog running loose in the 500 block of Comstock Way about 10 minutes before 3 p.m. He said officers were told the dog was trying to bite people, including children who were returning home from school.

Officers tried to get the children out of the area, but the dog continued to charge at the children and police, Horton said. A 13-year police veteran then shot the dog.

The dog’s owner, Beatrice Aranda, told KATU that her dog was in her yard [at 536 Comstock Ave]. She heard shots, came outside and said she found police had shot her Pit Bull.

She told KATU her dog is in surgery.

Police say the shooting is under investigation.
