Pit bull injures 10-year-old Vista girl

CALIFORNIA -- A 10-year-old girl was transported to a hospital Friday night after she was bitten by a pit bull in Vista, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies were called at 8:22 p.m. to a condominium complex on No. Melrose Drive, near Ascot Drive.

A resident was walking the dog on a leash in the complex's pool area when the girl was bitten, said sheriff's Sgt. Jack O'Brien.

She suffered a two-inch laceration on her left arm and was taken by paramedics to Tri-City Medical Center, said sheriff’s Lt. J.T. Faulkner. The wound is not considered life-threatening.

O'Brien said the dog was impounded by county animal-control officers.

Authorities are investigating a report that the dog may have previously attacked another child at the same complex, O'Brien said.
