United Kingdom: Police say Kyle Keegan, 23, posted video to Snapchat showing him beating a puppy with a hammer and then cooking it to death in a microwave

UNITED KINGDOM -- A fight has broken out in a courtroom during the appearance of a man charged in connection with an alleged hammer attack on an 11-week-old puppy.

The 23-year-old man's mother clashed with animal rights activists inside the court after angry remarks were shouted at her son.

Kyle Keegan, of Gilpins Manor, Lurgan, Co Armagh, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with animal cruelty.

Standing in the dock, Keegan simply nodded to confirm his name and the charge against him.

They're accusing Keegan of beating the 11-week-old puppy to death with a hammer and then cooking it inside a microwave. Someone videotaped the torture death and then uploaded it onto Snapchat, which has become the app of choice for animal torturers and abusers to brag about their heinous crimes.

It is believed footage of the alleged attack was shared on social media platforms including Snapchat on Saturday.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has appealed for any information.

Detectives have called for anyone who has seen the footage or has photographs of the incident to come forward.

As he was remanded in custody, a number of animal rights activists shouted angrily at him.

His mother approached one of the activists, and insisted: "He was brought up decent. He was brought up well," before leaving the courtroom.

Keegan was arrested on Tuesday after police were made aware that a puppy had been killed in an alleged hammer attack on Saturday at an apartment in Ailsbury Park, Lurgan.

No bail application was made, and Keegan was remanded in custody for four weeks.

The case was adjourned to March 2 when Keegan will appear before the court via videolink.

North Carolina: CONVICTED MURDERER Clint McQueen, 48, charged after beating dog to death with hammer

NORTH CAROLINA -- An Asheboro man has been charged with felony animal cruelty after allegedly striking a dog in the head with a hammer, according to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

Clinton Lamont McQueen, 48, was booked earlier this month into the Randolph County Jail under a $20,000 secured bond.

On Jan. 9, authorities responded to 1665 Independence Ave. in Asheboro.

Information obtained by the original call alleged that a dog was struck and killed with a hammer moments before the call was made.

When units arrived on scene they located McQueen and spoke with him about the incident.

While speaking with McQueen, they observed a dog that appeared to be badly injured and suffering from a head injury.

The animal was taken to a local veterinary hospital where it was evaluated and determined the most humane option for the animal was medical euthanasia.

During the scene processing, two hammers were seized.

McQueen posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 26.

CLINT MCQUEEN IS A CONVICTED MURDERER

Clinton Lamont McQueen pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Monday, one day before jury selection was to have started in his murder trial.

McQueen, 32, killed Mitchell Ray Maness in May 1999, shooting the Randleman man in the head on Brewer Street after the two began arguing, said King Dozier, assistant district attorney for Randolph County.

The state had planned to seek the death penalty against McQueen, but Dozier said prosecutors had the blessing of Maness' family to accept McQueen's plea to the lesser charge. McQueen was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison.

Three days after the shooting, police arrested McQueen, 717 Russell St., Asheboro. McQueen was also at the time charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

According to N.C. Department of Correction records, McQueen had previously served six years in prison on manslaughter and drug convictions. He was released in October 1997.

Note: Of course he'll torture, beat, abuse and kill animals. He's been killing human beings for a decade with no real punishment.

Michigan: David Hu, 33, beat cat to death with a hammer; pushed away his roommate who tried to stop him

MICHIGAN -- Sheriff's deputies on Wednesday entered an apartment in the 700 block of Machette Ct. in Rochester Hills and found a man lying on the floor of his bedroom with a severely beaten, dead cat at his feet.

Oakland County sheriff's believe 33-year-old David Yn Hu had just previously finished "beating his cat with a hammer" after [claiming to have been] scratched, according to a statement issued by the sheriff's office.

"During the interview with detectives, the suspect stated he was angry with the cat because [he claimed] it bit and scratched him several times," sheriff's officials said. "He told detectives he 'felt pain and let out his anger,' so he hit the cat with the hammer.

"He [claims he] was unable to remember how many times he hit the cat."

Note: This article states that cat belonged to Hu. However, WWJ says the cat actually belonged to the roommate who tried to stop him.

Hu's roommate of nearly six months "tried to stop him" and Hu "pushed him back and continued to strike the cat with a hammer," sheriff's officials said.

The roommate ran out of the apartment and called police.

"The cat had severe trauma to its head and was deceased," sheriff's officials said. "The hammer used to assault the cat was found under a shelving unit next to the body of the cat."

Hu on Friday was charged with killing or torturing an animal, a felony. He was placed in a suicide prevention vest at the time of his booking into the Oakland County Jail.

Bond for David Hu of Rochester Hills was set at $100,000 cash at an arraignment in 52nd-3rd Division District Court on Friday. If he does post bond, Hu is ordered to have no connect with the roommate.

In an interview with WWJ Newsradio 950 on Thursday, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard called this a “disgusting and disturbing” case on so many levels.

“What makes you think that, not that that’s not bad enough by itself, that those boundaries have clearly broken down in this person and they wouldn’t do that to a human?” the sheriff said.

(June 2017) Missouri: Despite admitting to chaining up his dog, standing on the chain so the dog couldn't get away repeatedly beating it in the head with a hammer in an effort to kill it, Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf claims there's not enough evidence to charge the owner with animal cruelty. Either Sheriff Schaaf is corrupt or ignorant - and needs to be replaced.

MISSOURI -- Fox 2 has confirmed a gruesome dog beating in Perry County:  a dog nearly beaten to death with a hammer.

It’s unlikely the man who beat the dog will face criminal charges, Perry County Sheriff, Gary Schaaf, told Fox 2.

It's been an amazing recovery for Benny, the Chocolate Lab, since the beating on May 24th.

The man who beat him late last month thought Benny was dead, Schaaf said, but there was not enough evidence to charge him with a crime.

Why is this man not a good enough witness? If he's willing to give the police a written statement... if he's willing to get up on the stand and testify that this man told him these things, why isn't that good enough? Why would he perjure himself - and face a felony charge for lying? What does he have to gain from that?

A small child beaten with a hammer may not be able to communicate that this person did it to them, but if the suspect tells another adult what happened, you're telling me that's not enough to charge that person with child abuse??

This is pure laziness from the Perry County Sheriff's Office - and the prosecutor's office. This suspect told the truth when he spoke with Steve Svehla, but when police spoke with him, he changed his story knowing he would be in trouble if he told them the truth. He's clearly lying and Sheriff Gary Schaaf is taking the word of a POS animal abuser over a law-abiding citizen who has no reason to lie.

THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT IS THE ONE WHO GOT STEVE SVEHLA INVOLVED BY CALLING HIM.. NOW THEY'RE CALLING HIM A LIAR AND SAYING HIS WORD IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

The sheriff’s department called in Steve Svehla of the Rough Roads Animal Rescue in Perryville after responding to a call in rural Perry County of Benny’s owner beating him unconscious.

“He [Benny’s owner] just told me he said he got fed up, the dog had chased a car.  He had to get the dog.  He flipped out, took the dog out to the woods, this is his statement:  chained the dog to a tree, stood on the chain, and thought he was going to kill him, thought he had killed him, but he knocked him out, so he walked away,” Svehla said.

Svehla has records of statements from Benny’s owner, a relative, and neighbors.  He’s also documented Benny’s wounds and vet care.

Benny’s owner admits beating Benny with a hammer, Schaaf said, but he changed his story and is now telling investigators it was self-defense after the dog allegedly attacked him.

OK so where are his bite wounds? What hospital did he go to? Hospitals are required to report all animal bites - for rabies investigation. What injuries does he have? Did investigators ask him why he is now calling Steve Svehla a liar? Why would he have told Steve Svehla this story about being mad because the dog was chasing after a car and beating the dog because he was angry???

There’s no evidence to refute that claim, Schaaf said, no witnesses saw the alleged attack or the actual beating.

“The dog wasn’t on him and he grabbed the nearest thing and started beating him off,” Svehla said.  “He put the dog on a chain.  If the dog’s that vicious, how’d he get him hooked up?  Took him out to the woods, stood on the chain and beat him with a hammer.

"Come on… my concern is the county just passes on this [animal cruelty] all the time…right now, it’s just free reign.  If you don’t like that animal, do whatever you want [and the Perry County Sheriff's Department won't do anything about it].”

Benny’s owner did surrender Benny and Benny's brother, another chocolate lab named Bowser, to Rough Roads.  Neither dogs is vicious and will be available for adoption soon, Svehla said.

Unless there was new evidence in the case, there will likely be no charges, Schaaf said.

Ohio: After his pit bull mauled a 3-year-old girl, the owner grabbed the dog and drove off

OHIO -- A toddler was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Wednesday night after a dog attacked her while she played with friends, according to police.

Keith McAfee said he was helping his cousin with yard work nearby when he heard the girl screaming.

"The next thing I see is a black pit bull had a little girl on the ground. (It) was basically shaking her around like she was a rag doll," he said.

He said he approached the dog and attempted to scare it away, but it continued to attack the girl. She only escaped, according to McAfee, when her mother stepped in to grab her and run.

Shortly afterward, the pit bull's owner appeared. McAfee said the man grabbed the dog, put it in his car and drove away.

"He should have stayed," McAfee said. "He should have stayed and seen how that baby was, but to me he was a coward, ‘cause he left."

In the video clip, he says he swung a hammer at the dog and it released the little girl, but then went back to attack her, grabbing her by the arm. This is typical of Pit Bull behavior. They don't normally run around attacking everyone within reach; it selects its victim and remains focused on that victim never relenting even when punched, kicked, choked, beaten with baseball bats, tire irons, 2x4s, hammers, etc. Sometimes bullets don't even stop them.

The 3-year-old victim was taken to Children’s Hospital and spent three hours in surgery for injuries to her legs and groin, police said.

Police stayed on the scene, but the driver and the dog had not been found by midnight Wednesday.

The little girl was later identified as Elena Rolfsen. Police say she was being babysat and was in her babysitter's yard playing when the Pit Bull wandered into the yard and attacked her.

VIDEO NEWS CLIP:

The attack brought back memories of a pit bull attack on 6-year-old Zainabou Drame in 2014.

She was mauled by two pit bulls on the sidewalk in front of her Westwood home until police arrived and shot the animals.

'It’s really indescribable and something no person should ever have to see and something we’ll never forget,' Cincinnati Police Officer Kyle Strunk said.

'I saw the brown dog, which was the bigger of the two dogs and he had the girl’s head in his mouth. He was slinging it around, thrashing his head back and forth with her in his mouth.'

The pit bulls ripped out Zainabou's tongue, tore her windpipe, ripped out most of her teeth and a third of her jaw bone.  Her face was ripped apart and had to be reconstructed.

The courageous little girl went back to school but has a lot of surgeries ahead and an uncertain future.

She eats and drinks through a feeding tube into her stomach. Another tube in her throat helps her breathe. She can’t open her mouth. Her father, Abdoulaye, said she will almost certainly need the feeding tube for the rest of her life.

In 2012, Governor Kasich repealed the law which had declared pit bulls to be inherently dangerous.

California: After woman leaves front door cracked while bringing in groceries, two dogs run in and nearly kill her dog. She has to beat pit bull mix in the head with hammer to save her Chihuahua

CALIFORNIA -- Those Fucking Dogs next door just came in my house and killed Buddy!! Called 911, Sheriff's and Animal Control.

Update #1:
Buddy is alive and in critical condition. Can't move his body. His eyes show love for me as the Vet is concerned that his spine may be broken. Waiting for swelling to go down so they can x-ray.

Crying for my baby boy. Now I'm pissed and my blood pressure has me shaking!
She will pay for this! I requested that dog be put down!!

Update #2:
Yay! One of the dogs from today's home invasion, the attacker has been put down! All I can think is what if that had been my grandchild on the floor.
PTSD!! The horror of seeing it happen in my dining room over and over in my head. Afraid it would come after me. Thinking how I couldn't stop it.

Poor Buddy was in the house enjoying a yummy treat I had just given him when I got home from the store.

I went back out front for the last bag leaving the front door cracked open and those dogs came out of nowhere and knocked me aside as they ran in.

Buddy didn't have a chance to run as both dogs corralled him. The pit bull - boxer went for the kill and got Buddy by the throat.

Once he stopped shaking his head and held Buddy to the ground I started hitting him in the head with a hammer with all my might. 4th hit he let go and both dogs ran out leaving Buddy for dead and me screaming in fear. Buddy never made a sound. He can't move anything but his eyes. I'm so afraid we'll lose him. It hurts so bad.

Praying for my baby.

Update #3:
Spine is in tact. He can move his tail and legs but he can't get up yet. Now the big concern is can he swallow. He hasn't eaten since yesterday morning. IV is feeding him now. Resilient little guy.

Neighbor claims she will pay for full recovery. We shall see about that. We'll make sure her homeowners insurance will, or a lawsuit, if she can't!!
Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. We love you.

Update #4:
Just brought our Buddy home. He has to be syringe fed with meds mixed in. He has a neurological issue on his right side so physical therapy is planned. Puncture wounds will need to be cleaned and dressed. No broken bones, no punctures to vital organs or veins in his neck. He will need to be carried and held to potty when he's healthy enough to go outside, until then lots of bed changing.

Our baby is home and on a slow mending process. We will need to get our carpet replaced as the crime scene of his blood, urine and feces did not come completely out with steam cleaning and other processes. Thank you all for your support in Buddy's recovery.

Update #5:
I need to borrow some kind of stroller, small carrier, or doll buggy for a couple of weeks so Buddy can see and be with me wherever I go. He has serious anxiety issues now, along with medical ones, and cries out because he wants to follow me whenever I leave his sight.

GoFundMe to help pay for vet bills:
Buddy was brutally attacked by 2 dogs, pit and lab, inside our home. Mommy beat them off with a hammer. Buddy is a survivor. Please help us in his recovery.

Pennsylvania: Brandon Cramer, charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly stabbed, hit his dog with a hammer

PENNSYLVANIA -- The Pennsylvania SPCA says it is charging a Monroe County man with four counts of animal cruelty, including one misdemeanor count, for allegedly hitting his dog on the head with a hammer and stabbing her.

Brandon Cramer, of Saylorsburg, is being charged with summary counts of lack of veterinary care for Michaella, the dog who was hit and stabbed, as well as lack of veterinary care for two other animals in his possession. The misdemeanor charge states that Cramer maliciously maimed, mutilated and/or disfigured Michaella by hitting her on the head with a hammer and stabbing her.

On Friday, February 12, PSPCA Humane Law Enforcement, acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, found a critically injured female Mastiff type dog suffering from head and stab wounds.

The responding PSPCA Humane Law Enforcement Officer took custody of Michaella and immediately sought medical care at a veterinary hospital in Monroe County. Michaella is in guarded condition, and is expected to have a long recovery should she survive.

The additional dogs in question, including two additional adult mastiff-types and two puppies, were transported back to the PSPCA’s headquarters in Philadelphia. Mordecai, a 1-year-old mastiff, has already been adopted from the PSPCA.

“The Pennsylvania SPCA cannot stand for acts of outright cruelty toward animals as evidenced by the acts of the individual involved here,” said CEO Jerry Buckley. “We are grateful to the veterinary staff’s quick response and dedication to Michaella’s care. We look forward to getting justice for her and continuing to investigate and prosecute all cases of animal cruelty and neglect in Monroe County.”

The PSPCA has created a fundraising campaign for members of the public to contribute to giving animals, like Michaella, a second chance: http://pspca.kintera.org/michaella

To report animal abuse, call the Pennsylvania SPCA’s cruelty hotline, (866) 601-SPCA.

Pennsylvania: $2,500 reward offered in Hanover cat-cruelty case

PENNSYLVANIA -- California-based In Defense of Animals,  announced Wednesday its own $2,500 reward for information after a 4-year-old cat was found tortured in Hanover on Dec. 30.

The cat, named Faith, was found wandering near Ruth Avenue with a wire twisted around her neck. A resident found the injured cat and took her to the Penn Township Fire Department where they cut the wire.

Faith was then taken to Heavenly Paws Animal Shelter for treatment, but her injuries were so severe that she had to be euthanized.

A necropsy revealed Faith had a fractured skull, possibly from a blow to the head with a hammer or similar object.

The SPCA veterinarian who performed the necropsy believes Faith was held stationary/hung with the wire while being struck by a hammer, or something of the sort.

York County SPCA  believe that whoever is responsible for torturing Faith could be charged with misdemeanor animal abuse.

“We thank In Defense of Animals for offering this reward and we are hopeful that it will encourage people with information to come forward,” said Executive Director of York County SPCA, Melissa Smith.

“Animal cruelty is a crime against society and must be treated with the same significance as violence to humans. We urge our community in York County to take this situation very seriously and to help bring justice for poor Faith who endured such horrendous treatment.”

In Defense of Animals President Dr Marilyn Kroplick said “It is vital that strong laws are in place and used, in order to protect animals and deter criminals from moving on to other victims.”

Anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who viciously mistreated and caused the death of Faith is urged to call or contact Humane Society Police Officer Nicole Lawrence at (717) 764 6109 ext.127.

A GoFundMe account has also been set up by Heavenly Paws Animal Shelter to go towards a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in Faith’s case.

Arrest type: Felony Animal Cruelty

FLORIDA -- Travis William Jaggers did unlawfully and unnecessarily overload, overdrive, torture, torment, deprive of necessary sustenance or shelter, or unnecessarily or cruelly beat, mutilate, or kill any animal or cause the same to be done, in that he did bludgeon a cat named Ripper in the head with a hammer repeatedly until it was dead, in violation of Florida Statute 828.12(2).

On 12/01/15, I responded to 3871 South Millstone Point, in reference to an animal cruelty incident.

Upon arrival, I made contact with the Complainant, Mr. Christopher Cheatham, who advised his girlfriend, Tara (aka Mr. Travis Jaggers) had killed his 13-year-old cat Ripper.

He advised this occurred while the complainant was not in the residence. When he did returned back home and he could not find his cats, Defendant Jaggers then advised him that they had been placed outside, not in the home anymore. He stated one of the three cats returned home; however, he had a bad feeling about the other cats, and then asked Defendant Jaggers if he had killed any of the cats.

At that time, the Defendant admitted to him that Ripper had come running into the house and he had killed it with a hammer by hitting it in the head and then buried it in the backyard in a Playstation 2 (ps2) box and put a Slinky toy on top of the grave.

After speaking with the Complainant, I then went into the residence where I made contact with the Defendant.

When I asked the Defendant his name, he stated his name was “Ms. Tara Jaggers”. When I asked what his given name was he stated "Mr. Travis William Jaggers".

I informed the Defendant that I was there in reference to investigating the incident involving the cat and Mirandized the defendant via a preprinted agency issued Miranda card.

At that time, the Defendant stated he would speak with me. I asked him what he could tell me about the cat Ripper and he stated, "I killed it by hitting it in the head with a hammer and then I put it in a bag and put it in the trash. I did not feel that was right so I took it out of the trash and put it in a ps2 box and buried it out back."

When I asked the defendant when this incident occurred he stated it was on the calendar that he had wrote "rest in peace Ripper".

He had pointed at a calendar hanging on the wall, at which time the date was showing 11/27/15. I asked him what time of day it occurred, morning, afternoon or evening and he stated it occurred in the morning time.

I asked him why he would hit the cat in the head with a hammer and bury it in the backyard and he said, "because it ran into the house really fast and I grabbed it and smacked it."

When I asked where this occurred in the residence, he pointed to the front door. Even after he attempted to clean it up there was still blood spatter on the walls and the floor.

At that time, I advised the Defendant he was being placed under arrest for Animal Cruelty. He was handcuffed (double locked) behind the back and secured in the rear of my patrol vehicle.

Animal control was on scene and will be exhuming the body of ripper for a necropsy to confirm the cause of death. The defendant was then transported to the citrus county detention facility for booking and processing. The defendant's bond was set at $2,000.00 per the bond schedule.
