Connecticut: Six-year-old girl attacked by pit bull; police say they can't force the owner to hand over the dog... so I guess they're going to do NOTHING??

CONNECTICUT -- Six-year-old Alexus’ arm is swollen, bruised and stitched up.

Friday night, she was with her mother and sister when a pit bull attacked them in their Waterbury apartment.

“It was horrible. It was like this dog is gonna kill my daughter so I was just screaming for help. Help, somebody please help me this dog is gonna kill my daughter,” said Lisandra DeLeon, Alexus’ mother.

Lisandra said they were in the elevator heading down from their fourth floor apartment on Bishop Street when the elevator stopped on the third floor.

When the doors opened, chaos broke out.

“The dog was loose in the hallways,” said Alexus. “I was running away from it and then it was chasing me and then it bit my arm.”

Lisandra said during the attack the dog also went after her seven month old, but the baby’s stroller flipped so the dog went after Alexus. 

Neighbors heard their screams and came outside to help. Eventually, the dog’s owner showed up, too, but Lisandra said she wasn’t cooperating.

“[The owner] came out and was ‘like don’t hit my dog, don’t hit my dog,’ and I was like ‘your dog is ripping off my daughter’s skin’ and she just started pulling the dog inside,” said Lisandra.

Lisandra said neighbors called 911 and when police arrived they knocked on the owner’s door to investigate and remove the animal. When nobody answered, they left.

Alexus was taken to the hospital and the family spent the night with a relative. Lisandra called police again today to see about having the dog removed.

“I’m terrified. I came over here this morning and when I heard the dog was loose again. I’m just scared to go upstairs,” said Lisandra.

We spoke to police this afternoon and they said two additional attempts were made to get the dog. Both were unsuccessful. None of the residents questioned by officers know the name of the owner so police called the property manager. There was no answer and they had to leave a message.

News 8 called the property manager as well and got the same result. Now, it’s a waiting game for Lisandra and her daughters.

“I want the dog out of here and I believe these people should get arrested because that’s not right. That was really inhumane what they did. 

 

 

"They should have came outside and helped and they should have at least try to tame the dog you know, to get the dog off of my daughter. They didn’t do anything,” said Lisandra.

Lisandra said after News 8 contacted police to question what was being done to reprimand the dog and owner, an additional attempt was made to get into the apartment.

This time, Lisandra said multiple police cars and the fire department were on hand but there was still no answer.

Police say when they do make contact with the owner, the dog will be quarantined.

Hey dudes. It's called a search warrant. Get one. Otherwise, this child has to get rabies shots. You only have 10 days to quarantine the dog. You need to arrest the owner for obstruction.

I guarantee you that if this Pit Bull had mauled one of these officers' children, they would've been battering the door down to that apartment to snatch that dog up.

California: Zixuan Liu brutally beat, stomped and kicked his young dog; gets no jail time

CALIFORNIA -- A man who was caught on camera shockingly abusing his puppy will not serve any jail time.

Zixuan Liu pleaded no contest in a San Francisco court last week to criminal animal abuse against his 10-month-old Shiba Inu, Aniki.

The 26-year-old was filmed by an elevator security camera dragging his pooch along the ground outside the lift, before pulling Aniki back towards him and kicking him in the head.

Once inside the elevator, Liu waited for the door to close and then stomped on the 10-month-old pup’s head three times.

 

He then picked Aniki up by his snout and carried him to the elevator door, before dropping him to the floor as the door opened.

The 26-year-old then delivered another hard kick to Aniki to get him out of the elevator, with the boot sending the poor dog flying out into the hallway. 

 

 

Liu was arrested on May 13, according to San Francisco Animal Care and Control.

The group said in a statement that part of the 26-year-old's plea included provisions meaning he will not be allowed to have a pet in future, and he must complete community service work, attend counseling sessions, and cover the costs of Aniki's care at its shelter.

He will also serve three years probation.

Vet staff at the shelter treated the pup for cuts and bruises, while also having it play with other animals as a way to improve his mental state.

San Francisco Animal Care and Control said it is pleased with the punishment handed down to Liu.

You must have low expectations if you're happy with him getting probation. This wasn't neglectful cruelty, as in his dog was riddled with parasites which made him lose weight. This was overt animal cruelty - a deviant, psychotic drive to torture and abuse a helpless creature. 

'We're pleased with the outcome of this case,' executive director Virginia Donohue said, ABC7 reports.

'Animal cruelty is horrible. Animal Care and Control strives to help the animals who are victimized and hold abusers accountable for their actions.'

District Attorney George Gascón added it was important to punish Liu - and any others who abuse animals - because it is a 'reflection' on the city.

'Anytime we can prove that animal abuse has occurred, we will hold offenders responsible in a court of law,' he said, according to ABC7.

Aniki has been sent off to an animal shelter in Nevada, which will handle the 10-month-old's adoption process.

Interestingly, no mugshot ever released. This likely means he had an attorney who was able to prevent its release. Which means he and his family have money.

(February 2017) United Kingdom: Despite being caught on video, throwing, beating, kicking and spitting on his cowering pit bull, scumbag Richard Cheshire gets probation

UNITED KINGDOM -- A man who told a judge ‘I love animals’ has been spared jail for beating his dog in a half-hour drunken rampage.

Richard Cheshire, 34, was captured on CCTV kicking the cowering dog in a lift before giving a thumbs up for the camera.

The court heard how the POS Richard Cheshire threw his pet – called Pablo – across the floor, stomped on his head, kicked him, and spat on him during the attack last September.

The attack was caught on security cameras at the tower block where Cheshire lives in Oldbury, West Midlands.

Unemployed Cheshire pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a dog when he appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court.

But he avoided jail after being handed a 12-month community order with the requirement to perform 120 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £385 court costs.

Cheshire was also banned from keeping animals for life – but can reapply to have it lifted after two years.

As he was spared jail he shouted to magistrates as he left court: ‘I want you to know, I love animals’.

Rafe Turner, prosecuting, said the RSPCA launched an investigation after being shown CCTV footage of the incident in a communal area of Cheshire’s block of flats.

The 30-minute CCTV recording, part of which was shown to magistrates, showed a half-naked Cheshire physically abuse the dog, and also spit, scream and swear at it.

Mr Turner said: ‘What you see is the dog being thrown across the floor of the landing and struck at least twice and spat at.

The dog keeps running away and not coming to heel, probably with good reason, while the defendant chases after it.’

Mr Turner said the dog ran into a lift in a bid to escape but a ‘clearly intoxicated’ Cheshire continued his attack even as the animal ‘cowered and whimpered’.

Miraculously, Pablo, a pit bull mix, was not serious hurt and will be rehomed by the RSPCA.

Sukhdip Randhawa, defending, said Cheshire took the dog in as a stray just a week before the attack. He CLAIMS his client suffered from anxiety and depression and used alcohol to cope with his problems.

During the incident, Chester was on ‘a bit of a bender’ and could not remember any of it.

Mr Randhawa said: ‘He took that dog in and cared for it and is an animal lover and would like to own a pet again in the future.’

Kansas: What's worse than being attacked by a pit bull? Being attacked by a pit bull while trapped in an elevator with it

KANSAS -- Longtime Wichita television personality R.J. Dickens was in the emergency room Monday night after being attacked by a pit bull dog in the elevator at his apartment building.

Dickens, news director at KCTU-TV, said he was riding down in an elevator at The Commodore Apartments, 222 E. Elm, when the attack occurred.

“As soon as the door opened, the dog just jumped in and lunged at me,” Dickens said, while waiting to see a doctor at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis. “He was on a leash the whole time, but it was a very long leash.”

Dickens said the dog bit him on the stomach, but let loose after he kneed the animal. He said he suffered puncture wounds from the dog's teeth.

“It hurts like heck,” Dickens said.

He said police were called and were going to talk to the dog's owner when he went to the hospital. The owner is a neighbor in the building, Dickens said. He said the woman was “in shock” after the attack.

“I was told when I moved in we were not allowed to have dogs,” Dickens said. “Now there are three pit bulls and they're all on my floor.”

Dickens is best known in Wichita as a longtime host of public affairs and talk shows on KCTU, a low-power TV station that broadcasts on Channel 43.

He's been off the air for several months after injuring himself in a fall, but said he continues to do programming and production work at the station.

Dickens also is the leader of a political action committee called the “It's Time to Fix Stupid PAC” that produced and aired a series of whimsical campaign ads aimed at unseating conservative Kansas state legislators in the November election.

He also gained some state and national notoriety in March when he petitioned the White House to revoke Kansas statehood for failing to guarantee a republican – small r – form of government as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

At the time, Dickens contended that the 2014 election counts were suspect and that the governor and Legislature had improperly tried to hamstring courts ruling on the constitutionality of state laws.

The petition gained several thousand signatures, but nowhere near the 100,000 that would have brought an official presidential response.

Dog killed in lift accident after leash gets trapped in lift door

SINGAPORE -- A dog was killed on Wednesday morning after its leash got caught in a lift door. Its owner, a woman believed to be in her 50s, went into the lift on the ground floor of Block 621 in Bukit Batok Central at about 6.30am.

The doors closed before the dog, which was on a leash, could get in.

Engineering assistant Victor Ng, who was part of the two-man Essential Maintenance Service Unit lift rescue team that was called in, posted pictures of the incident on citizen journalism website Stomp.

In these pictures, a dog which looks like a golden retriever is seen hanging by its leash outside the lift doors.

"The owner was crying and looked like she was going to faint," said Mr Ng, 38, who had to rescue the woman from the trapped lift and release the dog with a lift key.

He added that this is not the first time he has come across dog leashes getting caught in lift doors. "I want to let dog owners know that they should be careful to prevent such things from happening again," he said.

 

 

In October last year, close-circuit television footage posted on Stomp showed a pug on a leash nearly getting strangled after its leash was caught in the lift door. It managed to escape with the help of a passer-by who was waiting outside the lift.
