Florida: Three pit bulls that attacked 62-year-old woman, causing serious injuries, to be euthanized

FLORIDA -- Three out of five Pit Bulls that went on a rampage and mauled two women in St. Petersburg were scheduled to be put down Thursday.

The attack seriously injured a 62-year-old woman in her neighborhood along 21st Street South last week.

Animal control officers determined three of the dogs were responsible for the attack.

One will be put up for adoption.

The remaining dog will go back to the owner, who also lives in the St. Pete neighborhood.

Officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of 21st Street South at 9:24 a.m. on Monday, July 3.

When officers arrived, they realized the dogs had escaped through open windows that did not have screens on them.

The dogs charged at the police officers when the officers tried to get out of their patrol cars.

The officers had to spray fire extinguishers to keep the dogs away from them.

A Pinellas County Animal Control officer also responded and had to fight off a dog.

When the dogs jumped back inside the home, officers were able to use pepper spray to keep them back while they closed the windows. The owner happened to arrive back home shortly after and cooperated with police and animal control, bringing her Pit Bulls out one by one and loading them into the truck.

Florida: “They need to kill all four of ’em", says man whose sister was severely mauled by 5 Pit Bulls

FLORIDA -- Willie Fields could hear the screams coming from his front yard.

When he ran outside, he could see dogs attacking his sister, Robin Macon, 62, in front of the house.

“She was out here watering plants and the dog ran across the street and attacked her,” said Fields.

He then did what he could to help.

“When I was trying to get ’em off of her, the dogs run at me, I throwed everything I could get at ’em and it didn’t do no good, the dogs were still coming,” said Fields.

Macon was taken to the hospital with severe injuries from multiple dog bites.

St. Petersburg police officers arrived on scene and the dogs came at them as they tried to get out of their cars.

“They were extremely aggressive. Every time our officers tried to get out of their patrol cars, they would attack them. They used fire extinguishers, in fact they completely emptied one fire extinguisher trying to get the dogs back, and they weren’t able to,” said Yolanda Fernandez with the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Before officers arrived, Laquanda Butler came outside and saw the dogs attacking her friend.

“I heard my friend across the street moaning and groaning and her brother was trying to beat them off with a stick, but the dogs had drug her off already,” said Butler, who suffered a bit on her leg when one of the dogs turned to attack her.

An Animal Services officer also came under attack at the scene.

Eventually, officers used pepper spray on the dogs and they retreated back into their home.

When the owner finally arrived home, the Animal Services officer informed her of what her Pit Bulls had done and that they were to be quarantined. For the officers safety, they had the owner put a leash on the dogs, which then had catch pole noose put around their necks and then the owner and Animal Services officer, walked the dogs, one by one to her truck and the owner loaded them up.

The dogs, after going on their terror spree, had apparently turned back into 'regular acting dogs' by the time the owner got home and brought them outside.

St. Petersburg police say the dogs will now be quarantined and Animal Services will conduct a vicious dog investigation to determine their fate.

People who live on the street do not believe the dogs should be able to return.

“They need to kill all four of ’em. All four of them dogs need to be put down,” said Willie Fields.

California: Police officers serving a search warrant shot and killed a pit bull they say charged them and tried to bite an officer.

CALIFORNIA -- Garden Grove officers went to serve the warrant Wednesday, March 29 at a house on the 7300 block of Wyoming Street in Westminster suspected of housing drug activity, police said on Monday.

When they arrived, they entered and found the dog in a bedroom, said Garden Grove Lt. Carl Whitney.

The officers deployed a fire extinguisher and an animal control pole to control the dog, Whitney said in a statement. It charged at officers and tried to bite one.

"One officer fired several rounds that struck the animal," Whitney said.

Officers then finished the search of the house and found narcotics, weapons, ammunition and stolen police equipment, police said.

A resident of the house, Steve Pudiquet, 57, was arrested and booked into jail. Records show he was released the next day after posting bond. Pudiquet has a history of felony drug convictions dating back to 1989, court records show.

"When officers discharge their weapons at animals, an internal investigation is conducted to review the facts of the shooting," Whitney said. "Investigators will work with (the county's) animal control services for this investigation."

It was unknown if the dog belonged to Pudiquet.

Seattle police shoot dog after report of pitbull attack

WASHINGTON -- Police officers shot a dog after reports a pit bull attacked a man in South Seattle and then four dogs began wandering the Holly Park neighborhood.

The dogs, two pit bulls, one mixed-breed dog, and a pomeranian, have been captured.

Police say someone called 911 around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday to report that a "pit bull" had bitten a man in the arm, drawing blood, near the 35th Ave. S. and S. Morgan streets in South Seattle.

Detective Renee Witt says they don't know how bad that man's injuries are.

Police, animal control, and the Seattle Fire Department arrived to try to find the dogs' owner.

Firefighters called for police backup after two of the dogs began surrounding a fire engine, preventing medical teams from treating the dog bite victim.

"Apparently they sprayed one of the dogs three times (with a fire extinguisher) and it didn't deter the dogs," said Witt. "Another officer used pepper spray, which did absolutely nothing."

An officer shot one of the dogs as it began charging another officer at the scene, according to police.

"All officer-involved shootings are subject to review by the Firearms Review Board," say police. "Homicide-assault detectives will investigate the incident."

The Seattle Animal Shelter says the three dogs have been detained pending further investigation. The bite victim told officers at the scene that the dog that was shot was the same dog that bit him.
