Wisconsin: Family starts fundraiser for their newly adopted dog that was being mauled by two Pit Bulls until her owner shot them

WISCONSIN -- We adopted our sweet Pepper a little over a month ago from the Humane Society.

My husband, Mike, was taking Pepper out for her evening walk on Saturday, March 3rd, when just a few steps from being in our yard, the neighbor's pit bulls viciously attacked Pepper.

Mike tried to fight the pit bulls off of Pepper, as they both latched on and wouldn't let go.  He fought and screamed for help for almost 5 minutes, but no one came.

As a last resort, my husband left Pepper to run get his gun.  The pit bulls still wouldn't let go. Mike fired 3 shots. The first pit bull released her once it was shot. The other (larger) pit bull wouldn't release her until Mike had fired 2 shots into his chest.  They were relentless!

Pepper had to have emergency surgery for the crushing injuries.  10 lacerations that had 2 to 12 stitches each (estimated about 75 stitches).  She has 2 drains, one internal, and one external.  She's in a lot of pain and on a regimen of pain medication and tranquilizers, plus a few others.

In the past few days, she's lost some stitches and we've found that she has an infection, even though she's on antibiotics.  Her extermal pump isn't functioning because of the popped stitches.  She has to see a specialist and have surgery again to remove the dying skin around the stitches.

 

 

We aren't able to afford to pay for another surgery, but we don't want to lose our sweet little puppy.  We didn't rescue her so she could die a violent death.

The news covered the story (see linked story), and we are asking for everyone for help with this. Despite all of the pain she was in, Pepper still wags her tail when we pet her. She loves us and we love her.

Update 1
The skin has died around the original stitches. She’s in surgery now to get restitched and have the drains put back in. In these crushing injuries, it’s a hard thing to deal with.

Update 2
Pepper is doing a lot better after her 2nd surgery. We are at the vet getting her bandages changed. Her stitches are holding now, great sign. She has extra fluid building up near the current drains, but the vet says it’s not cause for concern.

We come back on Monday to have the current drains removed. If needed, they will put another in then to help with the fluid building up.

Even just looking at Pepper, you can tell she’s better. She still has to remain calm and sedated, but she’s strong and she’s pulling through.

 

Thank you to everyone for the support, kind words, and prayers. It’s a very stressful situation for everyone in our family, but knowing we have support of family and friends, friends of friends, or strangers makes this a lot easier.

Update 3
We went to the vet tonight. Pepper had her bandages changed and the drains removed. She has some fluid building up in her neck still, but the stitches are still holding and she’s mending.

She may have to have one more surgery to relieve some of the fluid. We go back every other day to get her bandages changed and the vet is monitoring the fluid. If she continues to mend, she should get the staples and stitches removed next week Thursday.

Overall though, she’s doing so much better. I cannot begin to express the gratitude we have for everyone that has donated, sent cards, prayers, or just kind words through social media. We are so very grateful for all of the love during this tough situation.

Update 4
Good news! The fluid is going down. If Pepper continues like she is, she won’t need a 3rd surgery, and she will get her stitches out next Thursday. We don’t have to go back for a bandage change until Saturday now. So things are looking up.

She’s been trying to alligator roll to scratch her stitches, so that means she’s healing!! The doctor was happy with how everything looks.

I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the love and support!! When I started this go fund me campaign, I honestly thought we’d raise maybe $50 after a few weeks. But we were close to our goal within a few days!! We have been truly blessed in the midst of this unfortunate event. The donations were a huge stress relief for us, and we were able to focus on helping Pepper recover quickly.

Update 5
Pepper got her stitches out today! She’s still tender, and we have to wait another week to give her a bath (trust me, she needs it). But she’s healing well. She doesn’t have to wear bandages anymore, but we still need to keep her back covered with a T-shirt.

She doesn’t have to be sedated anymore, obviously no rough housing though. Her hair is growing back, and I don’t think you will be able to tell she went through all of this once it’s all back in. She has some fluid still around her neck, but the doctor said it should start to reabsorb into her body soon.

I want to thank everyone again for all of the love. We can’t begin to express just how much we appreciate everyone.

WISCONSIN -- A West Allis man over the weekend shot and killed two other dogs who had his one-year-old pup in their deadly grip.

"I had to shoot the other dogs, unfortunately, to get them to stop the attack," Mike Fay told WISN 12 NEWS on Monday in describing the Saturday afternoon attack near South 59th and West Burnham streets.

Fay said he knew the dogs lived near him but said he never had any problems with them.

On Saturday, however, the larger animals that police described as pit bulls were running loose and set their sights on Pepper.

Fay, a concealed carry permit holder, said he tried to break up the attack, but ran back to his house to get his gun.

"It was a last resort, not something I'd typically just jump out and do," he said. "I wish things had happened differently. ... I was afraid that they were going to kill my dog eventually."

It was in this alley that the two Pit Bulls attacked

Responding officers later gave Fay a ride to a nearby veterinary hospital, where Pepper was already being examined and stitched up in nearly a dozen places.

She was back home Monday, resting on medication with her head in a cone to prevent her from giving attention to her wounds.

Fay's neighbor, who asked to not be publicly identified, said "it was a very unfortunate incident" and that he had no hard feelings against Fay.

Fay said the two men have spoken and said there doesn't seem to be "bad blood" between them.

"He's been very helpful," Fay said. "Everything's working out."

Really? He's not going to be criminally charged at all... so he's free to go buy two more Pit bulls this afternoon. Greaaaaaaaat.

California: Doberman attacked by Pit Bull at dog park

CALIFORNIA -- Chicago is a young, very much loved, Doberman Pinscher, who was needlessly attacked by a Pit Bull dog in a dog park in Temecula, California.

Because of this vicious attack, she now has to have surgery to remove a canine tooth and a partial tail amputation. PLEASE help us raise money for this beloved pet of Sherry and Doug Lacey. 

Most of you already know this beautiful Christian couple, Sherry and Doug Lacey from British Columbia, Canada. In December, 2017 they sold their home and began to live the RV life full time, for the purpose of Ministry.

They had two dobermans, Santana and Chicago. Santana had been sick for a long time, but they had prayed she would live long enough to return to the beaches of Oregon, which was her favorite place in the world. She did make it there, but the day they left Oregon, sadly she passed away. Not only was it an incredible loss for Sherry and Doug, but Chicago took it exceptionally hard too.

Sherry and Doug have continued onward, and have worked hard to bless many people along the west coast of California. One place they set up was in the desert in Slab City, CA. In this ministry they were able to love and bless many people living there by handing out supplies, food and water. While in this area a defenseless dog had been brutally attacked by a Pit Bull dog. So they loaded the dog into their car, took him to the Mexican border to an emergency vet office. He was examined and treated and the Lacey's paid for the examination, x-rays, medical care and medicine of this poor dog.

In late February, 2018, Sherry and Doug took Chicago to a dog park in Temecula, CA, where she was attacked by a different Pit Bull dog. However, they did not realize, until they had gotten back home to their RV, that one of her lower canine teeth had been broken. Sherry and Doug took Chicago to an emergency vet and learned that the Pit had also injured her tailbone too! The vet informed her that the tooth would need to be surgically removed and part of the tailbone would need to be amputated.

In the midst of all of this Sherry and Doug had gotten a new Doberman puppy named Journey. Chicago was not accepting of Journey and was showing exceptional aggressiveness towards the little puppy. They thought this was due to her mourning for the loss of her sister, Santana. But they quickly realized that Chicago is in severe and constant pain with the damage to her tooth and tailbone. She is still very young and will be two years old in May. The veterinarian, Dr. Gill from Vail Ranch Veterinary Hospital in Temecula, California, is a specialist. He will be performing the tail amputation and extraction of the canine tooth on March 23, 2018.

It is a very serious amputation which will require two to three months of monitored recovery. It is actually more serious than the loss of a leg due to possible spinal complications if not taken care of properly. She could end up paralyzed. The money needs to be raised and into their checking account no later than March 16, if possible.

The surgeries, initially will require the following:
Blood Collection two days prior - Pre Anesthetic Panel 2 - fluids and intravenous - Lg pain injection - Antibiotic injection - Cerenia Inj.P/Surg 56-75 lbs - Anesthesia Isoflurane 90 mins - Amputation of Tail - Tooth extraction of Lower canine - Buprenorphine injection - Hospitalization - Elizabethan collar #30 - Cefpodoxime 100 mg tabs - Tramadol 50 mg - Carprofen 100 mg.

The above costs have been conservatively estimated to be around $3,400. However; following the surgery, Chicago will need to be seen in the office several times to monitor her healing, possible infections, security of the stitches, follow up blood work and spinal function. These will be added expenses which are not listed above.

So to help offset some of these costs, I am praying that we can raise a minimum of $4,000, or more, to give to this wonderful, loving, giving Christian couple. I had to beg Sherry to let me set up a GoFundMe account to help Chicago. She told me that her dad, and many of you, were also telling her that she needed to ask us for help. Many people have stated they are willing and able to contribute. With the money we raise it will enable Sherry and Doug to continue with their Ministry of helping people in need. Tennessee: Doberman has to be tased to stop attack on firefighter and bystander

TENNESSEE -- A Shelbyville firefighter was injured Friday morning when a Doberman Pinscher belonging to a neighbor attacked at least two people at a house fire on Jarrell Street.

The firefighter was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment, sources said. City Manager Shanna Boyette would not release the firefighter’s name, citing HIPAA health privacy regulations.

She did say at least one other person at the scene was treated for cuts inflicted by the dog.

A city police officer used a taser to bring the dog under control, bystanders said.

The dog has caused problems in the neighborhood for some time, according to comments on social media.

Police were unavailable for comment Saturday,

Heavy smoke

Smoke was pouring from the home on the 300 block of Jarrell Street when firefighters arrived about 10:30 a.m.

No flames were visible, but acting fire chief Matt Doak said the home suffered “extensive damage.”

The occupants were away, but firefighters removed a dog from the home. That dog — which was not the one that attacked bystanders — emerged with no signs of distress and was placed in the care of neighbors.

The fire is “under investigation” and no cause or origin had been determined as of Saturday, Doak said. Real estate records show the house is rental property owned by Warren and Dena Landers of Shelbyville.

Finally home from this horrible day. 😧Foxy and hubby were attacked this morning by pit bull during morning's potty walk.

Hubby is OK, small cuts from bites.

Foxy ended up in emergency with lacerations, broken paw and her gum filleted from her teeth. Pit bull locked jaw on Foxy's head and continued to go after her once hubby got Foxy away.

The search is on for the owner "Kevin" who didn't give contact info as hubby was covered in blood.

Foxy is alive and home. Still out of it, swollen and splited after surgery.

Pam Adams (Florida) - My Doberman was attracted by 2 running loose and ripped her to shreds while I was walking her. She just got out Of the hospital after 3 days. She has 7 drains and the bleeding has slowed down. The pits were returned to their owners. 

I have been out over $500 and the owners suppose to pay but no guarantee he will. I never witnessed anything so brutal when she wasn't fighting. If my neighbor hadn't rum out and scared them off she would be dead. She has over 40 bites but this picture shows the worse of it. I am sick over this and she didn't deserve to have to go through this.

Walking Daisy two pits came up and attacked her and ripped her from head to toe. She even lost some teeth.

 

 

She's in surgery now and I'm praying she's alright.

Animal control picked up the dogs came returned them to their owner Christopher McCullough.

Calling a attorney to see if there's anything I can do with them paying her $500 Vet bill.

Animal control took pictures and there's witnesses. Florida has the worse laws of any state I've lived in. Animal Control said I'd have to sue for damages. This never should have happened. Blood is everywhere!

 

 

 

 

 

New York: Brian Hills, 41, arrested and charged with Animal Cruelty; accused of repeatedly shocking his Doberman with shock collar

NEW YORK -- On November 26th, 2017, Suffolk County SPCA Detectives charged a Mastic Beach man with cruelty to animals.

Brian J. Hills, 41, was charged with animal cruelty, a misdemeanor.

After an investigation, it was alleged that Hills repeatedly shocked his 2-year-old male Doberman with a shock collar causing the dog to scream in pain.

Hills has been ordered to appear in  First District Court in Central Islip on February 1st, 2018 to face charges of animal cruelty.

Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.

United Kingdom: Mail carrier who suffered horrific injuries in savage dog attack "devastated" after court rules animal will NOT be destroyed

UNITED KINGDOM -- A postwoman savaged by a dangerous dog says she is "devastated" after a court did not order the animal's destruction.

Sharon Singer, 47, was out on her round on July 4 when she was left with huge wounds to her arms and legs as she was mauled by the female Doberman.

She has since undergone dozens of operations to repair muscles, tendons, nerves and ligament damage - but has been left with no feeling in her left arm.

On Tuesday, the dog's owner, Julian Palfreyman, was ordered to pay £1,000 compensation after admitting owning a dangerous dog at Boston Magistrates' Court, Lincs.

But despite an appeal from the prosecution, the dog that attacked Sharon will not be destroyed.

Sharon said: "I'm really disappointed with the judge's decision and the fact that the dogs will be back to normality. I'm a dog lover myself and have two black labs but I would never wish this to happen to anybody else.

"I can't believe that the dogs have been returned home and not destroyed. It just seems like such a waste of time and taxpayers' money."

Sharon's husband David, who also works for Royal Mail, added: "Never in my 16 years working as a postie, have I seen something as dangerous as this. I've been bitten a couple of times and barked at by dogs but nothing like this.

"My wife and I were both working on that route and we had never seen a dog at that property so she wouldn't have known the dogs were there. The judicial system just seems so wrong to me. It's added to the torment of this attack."

Sharon, who had been a postwoman for 19 years, was attacked while delivering mail to Palfreyman's detached house in Wrangle, Lincs.

The court heard how the mum-of-two let herself in through a gate when she then saw a Doberman she had never seen before, barking at her.

Sharon was afraid the dog might attack her so she put her hands up in front of her and backed slowly away. But without any warning, a second Doberman, called Mezzie, "came from nowhere" and attacked her.

Prosecutor Jim Clare said Sharon was bitten severely on the left forearm, she screamed out in pain and for help but was then bitten on her arms, legs and hands.

He said that after a "few seconds", Palfreyman, ran out and shouted at the dogs.

The court heard how the owner grabbed the dog but it broke free and again attacked her again, biting her on the lower back and bottom.

Sharon managed to escape and get into her van before being taken to Boston Pilgrim Hospital, Lincs., by Palfreyman where she spent four days.

But magistrates heard how months weeks after the attack, Sharon still has difficulty sleeping, was still in pain and was suffering from muscle atrophy.

Today surgeons at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital performed a further operation to repair the nerve in her forearm yesterday.

Sharon hopes to return to work but is unable when she may be able to do so as she has no feeling in her hand and is unable to drive.

Magistrates were asked to order the immediate destruction of the dog however the judge issued a contingent destruction order which effectively acts as a kind of 'suspended sentence' on the dog instead.

Her husband, David, 41, added: "My wife is a positive and really strong person but she's been in such a lot of pain.

"Thankfully she's coped with it all really well emotionally but I'm just worried that it's going to catch up with her in the future.

"She hasn't broken down over the experience and from the shock of it all. When it happened, she thought she would be able to go back to work in a couple of weeks but it won't be for months."

During the trial, Palfreyman's solicitor Andrew Wheldon said there was now increased security at his house with double gates, and anyone visiting had to ring a bell to obtain access through an electric gate that could only be opened from the inside.

The postbox is now outside the property.

Palfreymen was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work for the community and to pay £1,000 compensation to Sharon and court costs of £85.
