INDIANA -- A man has been arrested and charged with severely beating a 4-month-old puppy so badly that he broke multiple bones.
Lemontrae Bible, 24, was arrested Friday at a home on N. Kenyon Street.
According to police reports, Bible was charged as part of an investigation into animal abuse where a 4-month-old puppy was beaten severely.
Bible’s girlfriend, Holly Brand, says he started hurting the puppy shortly after she got it for her daughter.
“He had pistol whipped her and actually had a broken tooth,” said Brand.
She says the abuse started after the puppy had an accident in their home.
“I didn’t really think it was that bad – I didn’t want to believe it. I don’t know. I should have stepped up more sooner,” said Brand.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found the puppy while responding a house on N. Kenyon Street.
The puppy, named Halsey, is being cared for by Zionsville-based rescue Every Dog Counts. The group shared some of Halsey’s story on their page Thursday, along with a link to raise money for her care and recovery.
Halsey was so abused that she suffered extensive jaw and head fractures, broken bones and had to have a tube inserted so that she could get nutrients while she recovers.
“Her abuser left her with multiple skull fractures, a broken jaw, multiple broken ribs and a badly broken forearm,” the rescue posted on their Facebook page. “She sat like this for days, with no help or pain relief before she was found and rescued.”
Halsey went in for surgery on Thursday, according to the rescue, to try to save her leg, which was broken completely in two.
“Through the process of multiple diagnostic tests, we’ve realized that this has probably been going on for a while – more than one incident,” said Dr. Johnny Cross, Medical Director, VCA Advanced Veterinary Care.
“It is simply not fair for life to have been so brutal and painful for this baby,” the rescue posted.
If you would like to donate to Halsey’s care you can visit the Every Dog Counts Rescue Facebook page and click “donate” under Halsey’s story.
The rescue will also help find Halsey find her forever home when she’s fully recovered and ready to be adopted.
Bible is charged with animal cruelty and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

Nevada: Alan Majerus, 28, charged after assaulting girlfriend and her cat
NEVADA -- A Lake Havasu City man was arrested July 5 after he allegedly injured his live-in girlfriend, threatened to burn her with a hot baking sheet and threw her cat against a bookshelf.
Police said Alan Majerus was jailed on misdemeanor charges of assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend, injuring her hand and leg, and damaged items inside their home.
Majerus, 28, allegedly had been drinking when the couple got into an argument about laundry. During the argument, he picked up the woman’s cat and threw it against a bookshelf. The cat bounced off the furniture and ran away.
Majerus then pushed the woman onto the couch and held her down by her wrists, the police report said. He bent her finger back, causing injury, and then bent her leg up to her stomach, the report said.
While arguing, Majerus smelled food burning in the kitchen, so he went into the kitchen and removed a hot pan from the oven. He allegedly came after the woman with the hot baking sheet, threatening to burn her. The woman locked herself in the hallway bathroom as he banged on the door, possibly causing damage, police said.
She hid in the bathroom for 30 minutes, and when she eventually emerged, she found Majerus waving a 9mm handgun around and yelling at her. At one point, he pointed the gun at her, police said. He then put the gun away and grabbed a large butcher knife from the kitchen and began chasing her.
He put the knife down and grabbed the cat, picked up a knife, and threatened to kill the animal. He then grabbed her hair dryer and threw it, causing it to smash into pieces, police said. Eventually, the woman was able to get her car keys and run outside, where she ran to her car. Mujares followed, with a knife in his hand. She put the car in reverse and quickly left the driveway, police said.
Mujares denied the accusations and told police he was afraid the woman was trying to kill herself.

Wisconsin: Dispute over missing Manitowoc duck leads to woman's arrest
WISCONSIN -- A neighborly dispute over a missing pet duck in Manitowoc led to one neighbor drawing a handgun on the other, according to police.
Manitowoc resident Aaron Shelton told NBC26 he bought two ducklings about two months ago and has kept them as pets at his home.
"The entire city of Manitowoc knows me as the duck man or the duck whisperer," said Shelton.
Last week, one of the ducks went missing, he said.
Shelton asked his next door neighbor if she had taken the duck and she said no, he explained. A few hours later, she came to his house and asked if he wanted to search her garage for the duck, according to the police report. When he said no, she drew a handgun on him, he said. He told police she pressed it against his stomach.
"I disarmed her, pushed her to the ground, and she called the police on me," Shelton said.
She told police Shelton was accusing her of stealing. When police arrived, they arrested the neighbor for pulling the handgun.
"She acknowledged that she did have a gun and that it was loaded," said Detective Andrew Trilling, Manitowoc Police.
NBC26 is not releasing her name until she has been charged.
She has been identified by the Manitowoc Police Department as Sarah Schisel, 69.
She was arrested on charges of recklessly endangering safety and carrying a concealed weapon.

Kansas woman, 80, threatens Animal Control Officer with gun
KANSAS -- An 80-year-old Kansas woman is accused of threatening animal control officers and firing a handgun as they were attempting to remove a dog from her property.
The woman was arrested Wednesday evening on suspicion of disorderly conduct and other charges.
Police say animal control officers were called to her rural Hutchinson home after a black Labrador bit a Reno County Area Transit driver.
Sheriff’s spokesman Darrian Campbell says the woman seemed OK with the dog being removed until the officers started tracking it with tranquilizer guns.
Campbell says the woman went into her house and came out with a .22-caliber semi-automatic handgun, forcing the officers to take cover.
He says the woman fired one round, but it’s unclear if she was aiming at anyone.

Neighbor saves man being attacked by three pit bulls
WISCONSIN -- A man was severely injured in a gruesome dog attack in Washington County. It was a stranger who jumped in to help save his life.
The victim was walking his dog when three Pit Bulls escaped from a backyard and charged at him.
Dennis Williams lives nearby, and heard the screams for help. He looked out his window and saw the vicious attack.
Williams rushed to action, first with a baseball bat, and then with a gun. He fired the weapon, killing one of the Pit Bulls. The other dogs then backed-away.
"I will never forget seeing that attack, or hearing the screams," Williams says. "It was one of the worst things I've ever witnessed. The dogs were on top of the man and his dog. They were not going to stop. I first tried hitting the Pit Bulls with a baseball bat, but they wouldn't relent. There was blood all over the ground."
None of the Pit Bulls had licenses, and only two of them were current on rabies vaccinations. They are currently being quarantined. Today's TMJ4 tried getting in touch with the owner of those dogs.
The man and dog who were attacked are being treated for severe bite and puncture wounds.
