(September 2017) Missouri: Gerald creates fundraising page saying this dog was attacked by a Pit Bull when in reality, the Pit Bull had injuries from an embedded collar.

MISSOURI -- Gerald Eckles is asking for $500 for this dog's vet bills. He says she was attacked by a Pit Bull and needs surgery. However, if you look at the photos it's clearly the result of an embedded collar or chain around the dog's neck.

His Facebook page tells the truth about the situation - that this Pit Bull was allegedly abandoned by its owner, chained to a tree, he took it in and needs money for its surgery. What is the point of lying?

Plus, Gerald sure likes to brag about how much money he has. He has a lot of photos of wads of cash on his Facebook page. Seriously, who does that?

If Gerald is so flush in fat stacks, why can't he pay the $600 bill?

To be fair to Gerald, I compiled these photos from all
of his photos on Facebook to easily post a group of them.

Again, be careful before you donate money to anyone online.

If I were to believe him, that this wasn't his dog until just recently, I now worry about his little dog Charley.

Pit Bulls eat little dogs like Charley.

Louisiana: Isaac Grant, 68, arrested and charged with Felony Animal Cruelty. Dead horse found among starving horses with chains wrapped around necks

LOUISIANA -- A 68-year-old Leesville man has been arrested following the discovery of neglected and abused horses on his property.

Isaac Grant (aka Issac Grant) is charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

According to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft, photographs were circulating on social media platforms of these horses with chains around their necks.

The chains appeared to be cutting into their necks, while the horses also looked to be malnourished.

Sheriff Craft said the photos were legitimate.

Five horses were found on the property. Unfortunately, by the time authorities arrived, one of the horses had died. Four surviving horses were removed from the property by the sheriff's office.

Sadly, one of the horses had to be euthanized after being rescued because the chains had grown into its neck so severely it had reached the horse's spinal cord and there was no way to save its life.

"It was disturbing," said Sheriff Craft. "This type of care was not justified and he has no defense as far as I'm concerned."

As for the other neglected horse, his future is looking brighter thanks to the Swany Creek Ranch.

"When they brought him to us yesterday, he was very nervous, scared," said Ranch Manager, David Corbin. "We got him in the welcome pen and gave him some loving, and gave him his meds. We're giving him some space to let him get used to everything."

He's in good hands. The ranch has five rescue horses they have nursed back to health.

"I don't see any problem with the recovery," said Corbin. "It's going to be a long process, but with a little TLC, hes going to be a great horse again."

Swany Creek Ranch has set up a GoFundMe page for assistance. They say any additional funds will be given to organizations that investigate animal cruelty.

Bond has not been set for Grant, who remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.

Mississippi: Bluetick hound found with horrific injury from rope embedded in neck

MISSISSIPPI -- A dog was found in Jones County Tuesday night with a small rope embedded in its neck.

Heather Williams, Director of the Southern Cross Animal Rescue, said she got a call about the dog in distress hiding under a home.  An employee was able to go to the home and rescue the dog late Tuesday.

Williams said that is when they noticed the dog had the small, red rope tight around its neck.  The rope was so tight, it created an open wound which was infected.

"It was such a bad case of embedded rope, she was in distress, she couldn't breathe, her head and her ears were swollen," said Williams.  "It was a tiny skinny rope, never meant for a containment of an animal."

Williams said the two-year-old dog was rushed to the veterinarian Tuesday night.  On Wednesday, the dog was continuing to undergo medical treatment, something Williams said could go on for the next several weeks to months.

"With the rope, every time she pulled, it got tighter," said Williams.  "Thank god she got away somehow."

Williams said she sometimes sees situations like this when puppies are given collars and they grow out of them, but that doesn't seem to be the case with this two-year-old dog.

Williams said the dog could suffer long-term effects, like a damaged trachea, vocal chord problems or swallowing issues.

If you know anyone who could be responsible for this dog, or may be involved, please contact the Southern Cross Animal Rescue at (601) 433-5807.

New York: Prosecutors drop animal cruelty charges against Tod Mishler. Only good news is that he must surrender horses

NEW YORK -- The "Outerbridge Cowboy" will be riding off into the sunset without his horses.

Tod (Doc) Mishler, 80, on Monday pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a non-criminal violation, nine months after he rode across the Outerbridge Crossing on horseback, with a second horse in tow, sparking controversy which ultimately led to his arrest on charges of animal cruelty.

Authorities alleged the animals were dehydrated, had bleeding sores caused by the saddle and had not been regularly examined by a veterinarian.

"My client wants to say, 'happy trails' to New York," Richard Luthmann, Mishler's lawyer, told Criminal Court Judge Raymond L. Rodriguez.

As per the plea, Mishler received a one-year conditional discharge and signed a forfeiture agreement giving title of the two horses -- Hope II and Charity II -- to the NYPD.

The upstate Ulster Park resident is also barred from possessing horses in New York for the next two years.

This is kind of pointless b/c he doesn't even live in NY. He can go back to Montana and get more horses tomorrow.

His horse, Hope II, who has been with the cowboy for a few years with “16,000 miles on her,” according to Mishler, had bloody open sores where she had been rubbed raw from her harness on both her neck and head, court records show.

Vets also found lameness in her right leg from an untreated infected injury.

His second steed, Charity II, was underweight and had oozing pressure sores on her torso, officials said.

Despite the horses’ deplorable conditions, Mishler said he had done nothing wrong.

“Animals were given to man by God for their use, but people have turned it into where they care more about animals than people,” Mishler told investigators at the time.

"If I caused anybody any harm, please forgive me," Mishler told the court. "It's been a learning experience. I just wish everyone peace and unity."

The bearded, long-haired defendant was garbed in his typical western outfit of a dark vest, pink bandanna, bright blue shirt and buckskin jacket. His white cowboy hat, covered in plastic due to the rain, was placed on a seat in the audience.

Outside court, Luthmann said his client has dropped the $50 million civil lawsuit he filed last year against the district attorney's office, NYPD, Parks Department and the city itself.

"We think this is probably the morally correct thing to do," Luthmann said, referring to his client's plea. "We can't see the district attorney's office expend any more resources for a full hearing and a full trial ... whereby there's so much problems with heroin on this Island and children dying of heroin."

In a statement, District Attorney Michael E. McMahon said, "When Mr. Mishler first rode into Staten Island, his two horses, Hope II and Charity, suffered from painful bleeding sores and showed serious signs of dehydration. I am proud to say that today both of these horses are fully recovered and have been placed under the care and supervision of trained professionals at facilities capable of meeting their everyday needs."

"Thanks to the dedicated work by the NYPD, ASPCA and this office's Animal Cruelty Prosecution Unit, led by Assistant District Atttorney Jane Grinberg, Hope and Charity can now look forward to enjoying full and healthy lives," said McMahon.

Tennessee: Donald Wattenbarger found hiding under a pile of clothes. Arrested for felony animal cruelty and other charges

TENNESSEE -- A man wanted for allegedly abusing his dog was taken into custody Tuesday.

According to McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy, Donald Wattenbarger, 45, of County Road 273, was taken into custody at his residence by McMinn County Sheriff's Department deputies Tuesday morning.

The deputies reportedly found him hiding under a pile of clothes in his house.

Wattenbarger was already wanted on warrants for criminal impersonation and driving on a revoked license when the MCSD took out warrants against him last week for aggravated cruelty to animals. He was accused of seriously injuring a pit bull on his property.

"It appears the animal was somehow bound or tied with some type of wire, possibly barbed wire," Guy said last week. "We've been working on this case for almost two weeks, getting statements from neighbors and input from a veterinarian and our District Attorney's office.

"This type of animal abuse is serious and cannot be tolerated," Guy added at the time.

The dog has been in the care of a local veterinarian and is expected to recover.

Wattenbarger was booked into the McMinn County Justice Center.

New York: Colonie police investigate possible dog abuse after pit bull found with infected neck injury from an embedded collar

NEW YORK -- Town police are investigating possible animal abuse involving two dogs found in a field next to Ann Lee Pond.

A passing driver found the two dogs at 11:50 a.m. Thursday at 776 Watervliet Shaker Road, Colonie police said.

Both dogs were pit bulls. One was an unneutered brown and white male with a deep cut to his neck. The other was an unspayed female, chocolate- and white-colored, with evidence she had previous litters.

The male had a deep, approximately 6-inch-long, laceration to its neck, and police said the wound was infected.

The female was underweight and had some skin and coat conditions.

The dogs are being cared for at the Latham Animal Hospital.

Police said they do not known whether the dogs were mistreated or where they were living.

Anyone with information about the dogs, dogs' owners or what may have happened to them can contact Colonie police at 783-2744.
