Alabama: Le Ngoc Pham and Hoan Cong Nguyen indicted on 81 counts of animal cruelty charges; together get $1.4 million dollar bond - which they immediately post and are released

ALABAMA -- A Dothan couple has been indicted on numerous charges of animal cruelty after animals were found in deplorable conditions inside their home.

According to court documents, Le Ngoc Pham and Hoan Cong Nguyen have been indicted on 65 counts of dog/cat cruelty and 16 counts of cruelty to animals.

 

 

The two were arrested in March after law enforcement officers received a tip that led investigators to their home.

According to Dothan investigators, officers found several dogs confined to spaces where they were lying in fecal matter. The animals also had inadequate water and food. 

Nine puppies were also discovered inside a freezer, causing investigators to believe the home was being used as a puppy mill.

Each had bonds totaling $702,000, for a grand total of the two being $1,404,000. If they were typical bonds, they had to come up with 10% - more than $140,000 in cash.

Arrested and booked into the Dothan City Jail and then because it being a felony booked into the Houston County Jail were: Hoan Cong Nguyen (aka TONY NGUYEN), male, age 47 and Le Ngoc Pham, female age 34.

Both subjects arrested have been released on bonds following their arrest.

The subjects listed an address of 2913 Peachtree Drive Dothan Alabama. On the paperwork filed in the court system, Pham listed her occupation Luxy Nails Spa and Hoan Nguyen (aka Tony Nguyen) is the owner.

 

 

Nguyen listed his employment as "self employed" in the remodeling business.

Documents say Pham’s trial date has been set for September 18, while Nyguyen’s trial date has been set for November 13.

Oklahoma: Macaw named Max stranded for days on roof because no one would help until firefighters came to the rescue

OKLAHOMA -- It's the latest incident in a string of pet birds getting loose.

In February, an exotic bird was rescued and in March, parakeet took off only to be reunited with its owner days later.

 

But recently, another bird took to the skies. Valerie Kelley says she spent five days camping around town after her macaw escaped.

Her bird, named Max, escaped while she was cleaning his cage and he spent time flying from roof to roof and tree to tree. Eventually, he ended up on someone's roof more than a mile from home.

 

 

Kelley tried to entice the bird to come down by bringing her other pet bird in a cage. She also tried to offer Max French fries. That didn't work either.

Kelley tried calling rescue groups and even asked for help online. Animal welfare told Newschannel Four they couldn't help so we called the fire department.

 

Within 15 minutes, a fire truck arrived.

A crew was able to get on the roof and eventually, a firefighter was able to capture the bird return it to Kelley.

Tyler Durham was the one who managed to get the bird. His biggest fear?

"Getting bitten," he laughed.

Meanwhile, Kelley, was on cloud nine.

"I am just elated. I just can’t believe we got him in there. I can’t wait to get him home," said Kelley. “Thank you so much! It didn’t matter who we called or what we did. We could get no one to respond.”

Alabama: Hoan Cong Nguyen and Le Ngoc Pham accused of running a puppy mill; 81 animals seized. Dead puppies found in freezer.

ALABAMA -- An apparent illegal animal breeding operation discovered late Friday afternoon in a west Dothan neighborhood was described by Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish as the worst animal cruelty case he had ever seen.

“Several of the dogs’ claws are growing towards the underneath of the paw,” Parrish said. “That tells us, these dogs have not been out of the crates in a very long time.

 

"The animals were not properly fed and they did not have adequate water. They were found in their own feces and urine was in some of the animals’ water bowls. We also found nine puppies in a freezer. These animals were truly living in deplorable conditions.”

The Dothan Police Department arrested and charged Le Ngoc Pham, 34, and Hoan Cong Nguyen, 47, of the 2900 block of Peachtree Drive, with 24 counts of aggravated animal cruelty and 57 counts of animal cruelty.

Parrish said around 4 p.m. Friday, patrol units were dispatched with animal control units to an animal cruelty complaint. Officers then discovered the illegal animal breeding site and contacted investigators.

“A search warrant was issued and during the investigation officers found 65 dogs and 16 exotic birds on the premises,” Parrish said.

 

 

“An addition had been built onto the original structure of the home and 25 dogs were kept in that in wood crates. Other dogs were located in the garage in wood crates as well. Dogs were located outside in the yard as well.”

According to Parrish, the investigation is showing that the puppy mill has been going on there for the past two years. He said the department has evidence that shows after the female dogs would have a litter of puppies they would breed them once again.

Parrish said exotic birds seized from the home are also suffering from trauma issues.
