Suffolk woman charged with cruelty in dog death

VIRGINIA -- A 23-year-old woman, who had been indicted on a felony count of animal cruelty, was arrested Monday in a case in which a black Lab-beagle mix was left without water in a pen and suffered a heat stroke last September, according to police and court documents.

Sarah Elizabeth Yauger was indicted last month, according to online court records.

In February, she was indicted for misdemeanor animal cruelty, online court records show.

Both the felony and misdemeanor charges stem from Sept. 14, when Suffolk Animal Control responded to the 200 block of N. Saratoga St. after someone complained about a dog that appeared to be dying in a pen, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

The 6-year-old dog suffered seizures when it was taken to a vet's office, Klink said, and the dog was euthanized.
