TEXAS -- A police officer wounded a dog in a shooting when the canine rushed toward him outside a house in north Houston Monday morning.
The shooting happened in the 4300 block of Oxford near 43rd St. about 7:15 a.m., according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the dog was wounded in the eye, but was walking after the shooting.
The incident began when an officer was dispatched to a nearby home when a woman called 911 to say three dogs were loose outside her home and she couldn’t leave her house, police said. She said the dogs were owned by the resident of a nearby home.

When the officer went to the home, police said, one of the dogs reportedly charged him and the officer opened fire.
