Warning after dog attacked in Hillingdon Park

UNITED KINGDOM -- A Jack Russell was seriously wounded when it was savaged by three other dogs in a Hillingdon park – the second attack there in a month.

Some dog owners are now warning others to be on their guard when using Connaught Recreation Ground, off Uxbridge Road.

Two bull mastiffs and a Staffordshire crossbreed pounced on 11-year-old Muffin at about 7.30am on Monday.

He was left with wounds to his neck and head and was bleeding heavily.

He later suffered two fits, thought to be brought on by the shock of his ordeal.

Owner Gwen Slater, 70, who lives near the park said: “I had Muffin on a lead and these other dogs ran up behind me.

“Their owner was behind them and he managed to get them off.

“But my dog’s neck was pouring with blood.”

The owner at first offered to take the injured dog to a vet but, after other dog walkers arrived to help, he left the scene.

Muffin was undergoing treatment yesterday (Tuesday) to stitch up his wounds and was being looked after by a vet.

Other dog owners said this attack followed another incident about three weeks ago, which also involved three dogs.

One who contacted the Gazette said: “My daughter was approached by the police as she walked the dog through the park and told about what had happened this time [on Monday].

“We already knew that there had been an attack three weeks ago. My daughter always checks to see what other dogs are there before she walks through.

“It’s not just other dogs – children use that park. What about them?”

Furious Mrs Slater says the owner of the dogs must be caught.

She said: “People should know that this has happened so that they can be careful.

“Someone must know this man. He must live locally.”

A police spokesman said there was an incident in February where a member of the public was bitten by some dogs, but a different description was given of at least one of the dogs, so it was not possible to connect it to Monday’s attack. He said officers were investigating the incidents.
