Owner saves Chihuahua from attack by tossing pit bull over fence

MARYLAND -- Anne Arundel County Animal Control has taken custody of a pit bull after it attacked a Chihuahua on Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to the 400 block of Lakeview Avenue around 2 p.m. where they spoke with the Chihuahua's 52-year-old owner. The owner told police that two pit bulls had entered his fenced-in yard.

One of the pit bulls attacked his 10-year-old Chihuahua named Charlie, police said.

The owner came to the Chihuahua's aid and tossed the pit bull over a fence, away from the Chihuahua. In the process of separating the dogs, the owner suffered lacerations to his hand, police said.

The Chihuahua suffered puncture wounds and a possible leg and shoulder injury during the attack, police said.

Officers were able to locate the aggressive pit bull, named Tyson, with his 18-year-old owner one block away, police said.

Charlie the Chihuahua was taken to the Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Annapolis for treatment and was being kept overnight.

Animal Control officers responded to the 300 block of Poplar Avenue where they took custody of the pit bull, police said.
