Oklahoma: Dallas Hicks, 19, is accused of torturing, disemboweling and killing a six-week-old pit bull puppy - and taking a photo of its body

OKLAHOMA -- An Oklahoma City man is accused of a disturbing case of animal cruelty.

Oklahoma City police said they found a 6-week-old pit bull puppy that had been tortured and killed underneath his bed.

Dallas Hicks, 19, was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on Sunday.

His mother would not talk on camera, but she told News 9 he needs mental help.

It was just after 6:30 a.m. Sunday that Oklahoma City police arrived to a white house on East Park Place.

Inside they found Hicks, his mom and her boyfriend, and then they made the gruesome discovery.

When police went inside Hick’s room they found a serrated survival style knife with a 12 inch blade under the bed. They also found a dog food bag with the puppy’s tiny body wrapped in bloody plastic. The puppy had been disemboweled, according to police.

Then, on Hicks’ phone, police found pictures of the dead puppy in the bathtub.

“They just moved here,” said Ann Denson, who lives down the street.

Denson said the family moved in a couple of months ago and never caused her any concern, although their older dogs did.

She and others said they would often run loose in the neighborhood.

“I’m afraid to walk down the street now,” said Denson.

“They just run wild everywhere in the neighborhood,” said Among Thompson who also lives nearby and won’t walk by Hicks’ home because of it. “Chasing people and everything else so I have see that and I have run from them.”

But both Denson and Thompson are shocked to hear about the gruesome puppy death that occurred inside the home located so close to theirs.

“That’s kind of a scary feeling to know you have someone that lives that close to you that would do an animal live that,” said Denson.

“If he’s killing animals like that, there’s no telling what’s going on in that house,” said Thompson.

The police report states Hicks reportedly told his mother, “Mom, I messed up. I hurt the puppy,” and then said he didn’t mean to do it.

Hicks is being held on a $2,000 bond. He is yet to be formally arraigned or charged.

WHY WOULD DALLAS HICKS TAKE A PHOTO OF THE DEAD PUPPY?

Heather Sutfin's article is titled "Haunting Photographs Taken By Murderers":

It is not uncommon to hear of murderers collecting trophies from their victims.

Psychologists theorize that this phenomena is likely because killers like to prolong the thrill of their exploits.

By taking a small memento to remind them of the crime they are able to relive that fantasy again and again.

For murderers these souvenirs are indicative of a great accomplishment, much like many of us may collect newspaper clippings or small trinkets to remind us of our academic or athletic achievements.

Some killers may collect jewelry or personal items of their victims, but others like to truly capture the memory of the kill with photographs of their crimes.

John Douglas wrote an article called "Why Killers Take Trophies":

Killers like to take trophies and souvenirs from their victims. Keeping some memento — a lock of hair, jewelry, newspaper clips of the crime — helps prolong, even nourish, their fantasy of the crime. In my research, I’ve seen this happen again and again.

Between crimes — often while targeting future victims — they’ll pull out their trophies and just sit back in their La-Z Boy chairs and relive the crime over and over in their minds.

Though they may say they committed the crime, they never really accept responsibility. They’ll blame it on someone else, or their upbringing, or say they were abused as kids.

They’ll never say, “Gee, I’m so sorry for what I’ve done here.” The tears may well up in their eyes, but — and I’ve always said this — they’re crying for themselves. They could care less about the victim.

Louisiana: Horse slaughter workers Boots Stanley and Steven Sadler arrested after posting Snapchat video of themselves holding pit bull while sawing back and forth repeatedly with dull knife to kill it

ARKANSAS -- The Ashley County Sheriff's Office said authorities are looking for two Arkansas men in connection with an animal cruelty case that happened in Louisiana.

According to officials authorities are searching for Boots Stanley (son of top horse slaughter duo, The Stanley Bros.) and Steven Sadler after a video surfaced on social media showing a man abusing a dog.

The video, which was recorded at a "slaughter barn" (a facility that sells horses and ponies to be taken to Mexico and Canada and butchered) shows a pit bull being tied to the back of a horse, which one of them is riding around on, while the dog desperately tries to stay on.

After they've had fun terrorizing this slaughter-bound horse and the dog, they pull the dog off and then, while holding him still, take a knife and start sawing at the pit bull's throat. The dog suffered horrific pain and terror before finally dying.

They were so proud of their video, they posted it to Snapchat.

Ashley County sheriff officials said the men live in the county, but the video shows an incident that happened in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana.

The incident is said to have happened in the 1800 block Auction Barn Rd. in Bastrop, LA. The video was posted to Snapchat, but recorded on someone else's phone, and shared to Facebook.

Law enforcement agencies in both Arkansas and Louisiana are searching for Stanley and Sadler.

Bastrop Police went to the horse auction pen known as the "The Bastrop Louisiana Kill Pen" Wednesday evening, looking for Steven Saddler and Boots Stanley. That's where the two men were supposed to turn themselves in, but never showed up.

Mitchell Stanley, the pen's owner, said he knew nothing about the incident, or either of the two suspects, even though one of them has the same last name.

THIS IS A LIE. MITCHELL STANLEY IS BOOTS STANLEY'S UNCLE. BOOTS STANLEY IS HIS BROTHER'S SON. CHARGE HIM FOR HINDERING AN INVESTIGATION!

Only at the last minute does the poor dog
suddenly appear to realize something bad
is about to happen.

The Ashley County Sheriff's Department posted the following on their Facebook page:

"We are aware of the video of the dog. Please hold your calls on this video to the Sheriff's Office we are having to deal with other calls as well. The incident actually happened in Morehouse Parish as we are assisting them with this and is being investigated."

"In our line of work, we have to remain neutral but we still are human. So I would say on a personal note yes [this video] was quite disturbing.", says Bastrop Police Chief Allen Campbell.

UPDATE (Aug 25, 2016):
A pair of Arkansas men accused of animal cruelty have been arrested after officials received a complaint about the two men.

The Bastrop Police Department has arrested Boots Stanley and Steven Sadler in connection with a video that surfaced on social media showing a man abusing a dog.

Stanley and Sadler have been charged with one count of Cruelty to Animals-Aggravated and one count of Conspiracy.

They have both been booked into the Morehouse Parish Jail.

If found guilty of these charges, the two could face up to 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines.

Of course, this slaughter pen business is getting a lot of heat. They posted a statement on Facebook denying any knowledge of what's going on. But local residents know the truth:

Stabbed Puppy Recovering, Owner Destiny Faith Goss Charged with Animal Cruelty

NORTH CAROLINA -- Buddy, the puppy stabbed last week in Rowan County, is on the mend, according to workers at Rowan County Animal Care and Control, while the dog's owner has now been arrested in connection with the case.

Rowan County authorities charged Faith Goss with misdemeanor cruelty to animals because she deprived the dog of "necessary sustenance," according to the arrest warrant.

Basically, they're saying after the dog was stabbed repeatedly by Phillip Shoemaker, she never bothered to take the poor dog to the vet. She just left it lying there at her house.

A witness told a deputy she watched Phillip Shoemaker  hold the dog down with his knees, while stabbing it in the stomach and neck. Deputies found the dog inside the home of the witness. It had several puncture wounds to its stomach and several stab wounds to the neck.

Goss' trial date is set for February.

Shoemaker was arrested at the scene and charged with felony cruelty to animals. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond.

Jamie Stivers, a vet tech at Rowan County Animal Care and Control, said, “I think it’s absolutely horrible. I can’t imagine a poor, little, tiny, 20 pound dog being treated the way that he was.”

When deputies arrested Phillip Shoemaker, they say his jeans were blood-soaked. Investigators say those are the same jeans he was wearing when he allegedly stabbed young Buddy with a knife.

Animal Care and Control says Buddy had a total of three stab wounds to his neck and chest.

Stivers said, “It’s just unimaginable. You think, 'How can anybody do anything like that to a poor, little defenseless puppy.”

Dog gets stabbed by psycho Phillip John Shoemaker, 22, then suffers for days when owners don't take him to the vet

NORTH CAROLINA -- A 22-year-old Salisbury man, believed to be homeless, is charged with stabbing a puppy multiple times Thursday night, deputies say.

Phillip John Shoemaker is charged with cruelty to animals.

Shoemaker was house sitting for a couple on Highland Park Drive and was taking care of their pets, according to neighbors.

Deputies say Shoemaker stabbed one-year-old "Buddy" repeatedly with an eight-inch hunting knife.

Around 11:50 p.m., a woman living nearby, on Highland Park Drive, called deputies and said she saw Shoemaker stab the puppy.

“I see this man, Phillip, stabbing the dog in the side and twisting the knife into him," neighbor Faith Cox said.

Cox said she heard the dog yelping and screamed at Shoemaker to stop. That's when she says Shoemaker raised his hand and stabbed the dog again, this time in the neck.

Shoemaker was one the ground, holding the puppy down between his knees, according to the report.

“My dad yells at him and I guess he got frightened, the dog got loose, he was chasing the dog trying to stab the dog still and the dog got away and came up into my house," Cox added.

When deputies arrived, Shoemaker was inside a home wearing blood-covered jeans, the report notes. Shoemaker reportedly told officials that he stabbed the dog because the dog bit him.

He also told deputies the dog's owner gave him permission to kill the dog.

Buddy was taken somewhere to be treated for multiple stab wounds to the neck and stomach. The puppy did survive the attack but the condition is not known.

Neighbor Victor Johnson said that he had seen Shoemaker abusing other animals.

“For about three days I stopped him repeatedly from kicking the dogs, beating them, he had one pinned on the floor with his knee in its back the other day hitting it in the face, just punching," Johnson said. “There’s no room  in this world for somebody beating on a little dog.”

Shoemaker was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $5,000 bond.

There was a new development late on Friday afternoon when Rowan County Animal Control officers came to the house and picked up Buddy.

They also charged Buddy's owner for not taking the dog to a veterinarian for treatment following the stabbing.

Buddy is not being cared for by Animal Control.
